Any sensible advice accepted. Thanks in advance.

Just to clarify, is that what the advertiser is paying to take it away?

Well, I actually bought one of these new back in about 87 or 88 myself. The question kinda comes to mind that if it's just a secondary coil why not fix it and sell it as a properly running unit? Me thinks there's more to it, but then the attitude that comes across in the ad wouldn't make me look any closer anyhow....

Unless you're mechanically minded to fix this bike yourself, I'd say leave it alone.

I went from a GN250 to the XZ400 and it didn't seem like much of an upgrade....with the benefit of hindsight...

They do make a good basis for a cafe racer. Google is your friend.

Friends don't let friends buy XZ400's.

And always blow on the pie.

Buying an XZ400 for a friend will not have a happy outcome....

I sold bikes for Eric Wood back in 1990, these were unpopular even back then, couldn't drag the skin off a rice pudding

I had one. I loved it cos it sounded great. But.
handles like shit
unreliable as fuck
well known for fucked electrics

Dont do it, it isnt worth the hassle. theres a reason they werent made for very long and werent continued.

I dont really see them being collectible or anything either. Unless you were coceived on/over one, Dont bother.

When I traded mine in they checked the fuel level as that had a bearing on the trade-in allowance on a real bike.

Be aware the guy also had a Lada, which he sold. Mudslinging aside, I bought one new in '88. In 38,000k's it never gave one bit of trouble. I did the brass monkey, all over the nth isl and quite often two up.

It was you who bought the single good one.

Well done!
