Hi all, I'm thinking about doing a trip out to Kawhia sometime and was wondering if anyone has been out that way recently and could tell me the condition of the road.

Also the road out to Te Anga and on to Waitomo, is it all tarseal or are there gravel portions?

Cheers Guys and Gals!

The Waitomo - Te Anga road is all tarseal. Haven't been there for a few months though, so don't know what condition the roads are in. It's a good ride though, I should make a point of going out there again..

All sealed out to Kawhia, no problem. Road between Kawhia and Raglan has a few km of gravel, last time I went through it was freshly graded and blardy hard to ride.

Road out past Te Anga is nice, all sealed. Also a route up through Harbour Rd toward Kawhia (but coming out east of Kawhia) that's all sealed, or was the last time I was there (probably a couple of years ago now)

Theres a video somewhere of a certain Blue Honda Blackbird (on that road) totally misjudging a left hand corner over a crest and ending up just short of a farm fence...go Mr Yod!

Kawhia Rd goes past Bridal Veil Falls and has been closed by a slip for many years - it has now been repaied enough for quad bikes, and I went through on a road bike earlier this year.

Cheers mate, I'm tossing up between heading out that way tomorrow or possibly heading out towards Wairoa ways and back through Waikaremoana. They both look like fun rides.
