Back in the days (going back a few years here) when I used to be a shy little kid, the only way I was having conversations with women or girls I didn't know was through the chat rooms or ICQ (just for the sake of general chat with the opposite sex for mild intelectual stimulation).

I haven't used chat programs for years and years now other than on short occasions with close mates with whom I am already in contact with.

On one night a couple of weeks back, I was bored and having nothing else to do while listening to music and looking through KB and looking through my PC stuff, old photos, games and shit. I then saw the old ICQ and fired it up.

Once I logged on, I sent a "Hi", "Hello", to about 10 different women to just have general chat with, with the purest of all intentions... yet no reply. Hmmmmm, OK, so I was witty and did a nice and fun intro to see if that would grab their attention... Nope still 0 replies out of the 20 odd different women I sent the messages to. Back in the days a few years back, I would get a reply in every 3 different women I contacted, now you don't get a reply at all.

I guess it's hard for women cause of all the creepy dirty guys out there, but we are not all bad FFS! Personally I am not affected by this change as I have moved on from the scene, as I have no problems walking up to women and chatting them up in real life whether its just general chit-chat or hitting on them and asking them out or what ever.

However for guys who still want to chat through the net, with women as genuine friends or looking genuinly for something more, I really feel sorry for them. Just cause of a few sick perverts, all the women out there have become all anti-guys and shit, which is really sad to see...

After watching that program yesterday "stake out" or what ever it's called, reminded me of this and I thought I'd share my view and experience.

I still use iChat on the mac, and Fire, which runs all the chat clients. But I don't go fishing for new buddies very often. I just chat to the people I already know (feel free btw) from other forums, and friends and family too.

I think I might still have my details lurking around to say hi if they see me, be it male or female.

But from things like that last night (didn't watch it, but saw the ads), I steer clear of that stuff anyway, as half the time, it's a trap. Just not worth it. Used to be a good idea, then too many pervs ruined it for the rest of the genuine world..

I'm happy to chat to anyone tho..

If you can spare the 85mb file size (work comes in handy here), this short film is strangely funny, but a sharp reality in it.. Quite good..

Moving sideways a bit - does anybody here that uses Skype get people they don't know add you to their contact list? I keep getting about three ladies a week attempt to add me to their contact list - they're all either Asian or Eastern European. Am I missing some interprenet dating/sex chat action here?

I haven’t been in chat rooms for years. I guess people use online personals on websites instead.

I still activly use Icq at home and work. so do all my flatmates, easy communication. I use miranda which incorporates all clients (aim, icq, msn, yahoo, irc, and some more) bu only bother with my icq and msn protocols.

If I log into the web based one (go.icq.com) then I get tonnes of 'add me to your contact list' from user ETRHJSGSH which is just spam and gah I hate it
(on a side note.. I DID actually talk to one of those spammers once....

that's pretty f*cked up!
The end was funny though.
It's a pretty grim look at chatting. Sure some or all of the stuff in that probably happens (people pretending to be younger/older or different gender or sexuality etc) but I'd guess that sort of stuff is the minority. I think most people are reasonably honest. It would of course depend on what chat room you go etc.

98% of women in chat rooms are really ugly men in pink negligees.

Reminds me of one of my favourite T-shirts (best when worn by a middle-aged dude with a gut)

"I'm the teenage girl you jerked off with in the chatroom last night"

which is what makes Kiwibiker so much better. (well its not nessesarily (SP) a chat room as per say. but close enough) and better than most other forums because we actually go out and meet each other.

'she' is probably that middle-aged dude-with-the-gut-in-the-T-shirt that Hitcher was talking about a couple of posts before yours
