View Full Version : Putting the Boot in

As a sprot bike rider I have my boots on the outside of my pants .... However, almost every HD type rider I've noticed rides with their leathers pulled down over the top of their boots. (following me here so far?)

When it rains... surely you would get better weather protection by having your boots under your leather pants ... yes?

Do us sprot bike riders have something to learn from our cruiser rider brothers? :weird:

Your thoughts?

That was my throught.

Personally though, My leathers doesn't strech that far... I think. Plus, no matter what Rossi does, I reckon it looks dorky! I'd rather show off my riding boots on the outside of my leathers. If it's pissing down hard enough, you'll get wet anyway and if it's not, it shouldn't bother ya.

I wear my boots on the outside of my leathers as theres no way you could do the opposite and don't really get wet in them.

But if it is really raining and and I'm going more than 5 minutes or so out of town I wear wet weather gear over the top of my leathers which go outside my boots and thus staying dry.

Don't have any proper bike gear so wet feet in the rain are part and parcel of riding in the rain.

When will bike shops have those "at least 50% off" protection gear sales?
I'll bust the bank to get kitted up but till then, I'll remain riding around in casuals. It's just too expensive, even the budgets and the protection level in budgets isn't any better than what I ride around in with simple casuals.

Definitely avoid wearing anything that is beach wear.

I wear HJC winter/summer gloves, ankle high hiking boots, jeans, thick winter padding jacket and a bright blue wind/rain jacket, plus a mono colour red helmet. That's the best I can do at the moment. Gets very hot at lights in the summer.

Aiming to get dressed up like you other bikers but no money.

He was just a pussy playing games. I stuck my head right up to his window when he swerved over to side swipe me but he didn't... Of course he wouldn't, as there were 5 other riders behind me who'd cover my back (or so would the Subaru driver assume). So I wasn't scared he'd try anything stupid.

If it was only you and me riding and you did that, I would have never in a million years tried to overtake him, cause that boy was PISSED after you did that!!! He was just giving us the fingers and bouncing up and down on his seat while turing red, so I thought it'd be rude not to return the same gesture after succesfully passing him.

I thought the idea of having your pants inside your boots was so they were less likley to ride up if you crash.

OK

Leathers: Outside my boots as they don't fit too well inside and I like the water outside of my boots. Would put leathers inside for hooning/track days as a safe feature if mine fitted, but still think leathers inside the boots look pretentious and dAucky (oops, dorky:wait: ).
Jeans: I turn-up at the bottom so the end don't rub my ankles and put my socks over them so they will fit better inside my boots when riding (feel jeans are more likely to ride up). If I am partying/dancing, I put my jeans over my boots (have gone to interviews like this and they were none the wiser:whistle: ).

Lsten you sorry-arsed cheese-dick mofo, go down to the local ex-army depot and buy a set of leather gaiters that buckle over you boots and over the top of your leather pants (jeans? - I hope not!!), they are super rugged and super cool and NOBODY (except a loser) will 'dis' you for wearing them.

On the spool textile pants I have I find I hard to put them inside of the boot due to me being short. Mind you I do have to wear long socks otherwise the velcro scratches like mad. With my leathers I now have I can get them in the inside fine.

Scoff if you will !('tis funny thou  ). But thanks to Mr Scumdog's brilliant suggestion, I am off on Monday to the Army Surplus stores. Those gaitors the Army guys wore are exactly what is needed. And good and solid. I had been looking at ski shops, they have gaitors but they are flimsy things. The army ones were robust (do they still wear them ? ).

Then all I need is some spats (another brilliant suggestion that). Does anyone have any ideas where to get leather spats ? I think the Don R's and the AA Scouts used to wear them.

With gaitors and spats I'll defy the elements.

I believe in Santa Claus. I believe in fairies. And pixies. And gnomes and definately in gremlins. But I don't believe in the downright unbelieveable, so I don't believe in waterproof boots.

I know the type of gaiter you are referring to, they just cover the top of the ankle area, the gaiters I bought are virtually a combined gaiter/spat, they cover the top of you boot down past the 2nd last eyelet on my steel-cap, they have three side straps and one that passes under the arch of the sole.

I dubbinned the hell out of them and they A1 weather protection and you can walk around in them without looking like a Clydesdale horse. (we're talking about feet not phallus you naught people!!)

I wear my Dririder cordura leggings over my rather plain black Sidis. The Dririders have a couple of fasteners to hold the leggings tight against the outside of the boots - shouldn't ride up in an off. Rain cascades down over outside of boots leaving toasty warm dry feet.

What are underpants?

It doesn't matter to me what's trendy as far as pants in or out. My leather pants are designed to fit inside my boots, so that's how they go - there's no way they'll fit over the boots. Yes, the rain trickles down the seams into my waterproof boots, but the leathers are only showerproof anyways, so if it's raining I put my Motoline wet-weather pants on over the top, with the bottom of the legs outside my boots (I may be mental, but I'm not stupid :weird: ).

If I'm wearing jeans or other trousers (just about never happens), they usually go inside the boots while I'm on the bike, and over the boots when I'm off the bike (otherwise it looks naff).

Jacket sleeves are another matter - they can go inside the glove cuffs or outside, so if it's fine(ish) they go inside, and if it's pissing down, they go over the glove cuffs. (I may be mental, but I'm not stupid :weird: ).
