On my travels ive tripped over a 99 250 zeal. The one with the headlight fairing. Good Ks and good price. Seems to be a nice inline 4 250.
Are they ok bikes?

Im not keen on the hornet 250, no real reason. Looked at the CB today. Also Cyclespot has a new one and one with a half fairing. But im on 250 for another 9 months so looked at 250s.
Zeal is different which I like.

the Zeal is basically a Yamaha version of the hornet/bandit. It runs basically a detuned FZR250 engine.
In my experience, FZR 250 engines tend to go bang. alot.
The zeals do look nice though. cant say I know a whole heap about them

I test rode one earlier this year, zippy little bikes. Rode my new bandit the same day and found them relatively comparable.. Only thing I didn't like about them was the annoying velcroed seat.. Has two little velcro tabs to attach the seat to the tank  was a PITA.

If you want speed out of a 250 buy a stroker of any description. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

Zeals are pretty cool though, heaps of torque, have herd of them having alot of motor problems but i dont know if this is true

zeals are good reliable bikes but the mufflers tend to rust out if the bike has benn stored for a long time. sweet handling and peppy motors. good fun for the right money. Hornets are fine too. Kawasaki balius are great as well...

I rode a Zeal when doing my L & R license bizzo a few years ago. I clocked on 17,500km in nine months and loved it. Unlike some 250s, the Zeal has a full-size frame, which is great for larger riders. The engine is willing and loves having its neck wrung, which is necessary for overtaking. Fuel economy is not a strong suit, but long distance touring is, as much is it can be on a 250. Brakes are awesome. The engine note is good too.
The Zeal and the Hornet are liquid-cooled inline fours. That's where any comparison ends. The Zeal is a way better bike than the Hornet and the 250 Bandit.

Nothing wrong with a VTR250 in my opinion and if you're only gonna keep it for 9 months they seem to hold their resale value quite well. Or you could go slow and get a CBF250. Sold mine after 9 months for 500 bucks more than I bought it for and it cost me nothing in maintenance over that time. Didn't even need to pay for a new warrant or rego!

Nah no oil change. Only did 2000k as had other bigger bikes for ever day travel. Just used the CBF for places with high Police count!

Been using my Zeal for almost a year now, its a high revving screamer for a 250cc bike. High torque and quick acceleration. Downside- mine has no fuel gauge and I guess most zeal does'nt have one, and i get 15km to a liter.
