View Full Version : VT250 Making unnerving as hell noise when let off throttle

So I'll be cruising at say 100 kmh, then let off the throttle, and the bike will make this really strange noise. Its almost like a camera shutter noise but louder and harsher, I can't really explain it.
Anyway whenever I let off throttle this happens. It happens whether Im just cruising at 60k 100k or any speed really for that matter. Sometimes if I'm high in the RPM range and I let off the throttle to downshift it will make the noise 2 or 3 times. Its really fucking weird and got me kind of scared. It's quite strange as it started to do this out of nowhere.
Anyone have any clue what this is? Cheers :wait:

Check the state of your chain and sprockets.

So its just when its moving if you rev it when in netural from about 2000 rpm if makes buzz sound chould be cam chains
Other wise sounds like drive chain check its not to tight in any spots by turning the back wheel on the centre stand
you dont want chain loose but not with no slack either usually think from distant memory 20-30 mm each side of centre

Yep the chains fuckin rooted. Went to Motorad to get a clutch cable fixed as it broke down outside their shop. I also asked them to check the front brakes and repair the split in half petrol overflow hose. They told me both was fine, I had to point out to him where the hose was and where it was broken.
They charged me $350 for a new clutch cable, looking at the front brake, telling me my petrol hose wasnt broken, an oil filter change, and a bike check.
The 'bike check' said I needed a new back brake light switch as it wasnt working. It was working fine.. Steering bearings were loose. They probably work fine too. No mr mechanic i dont want you to fix those ill come back another time.
After all this money spent on just looking at my fucking bike I thought they might have the decency to tell me my chain was loose as fuck and rooted. I had peace of mind that my bike was in good nic. Turns out needs a new chain lol.
BUT I CANT COMPLAIN AS I SHOULD JUST DO ALL THIS SHIT MYSELF. But I cant be fucked
Still kind of annoyed though
New chain on Saturday, current chain barely on the sprockets

What are the sprockets like?
If you put a new chain on even slightly worn sprockets it won't last long.
As sprockets are lot cheaper than a chain it usually pays to replace them all at the same time

$350 isn't too bad for a filter, oil, clutch cable, and labour (the killer price wise) ...
Brake light switches do stick now and then on bikes that aren't looked after ... a bit of CRC on the switch may help.
Dont piss around with steerring head bearings ... get a second opinion check if you arent sure . BUT DON'T ignore it.

Judging by your knowledge of bike issues/problems YOU told us of in this thread (re: CHAIN NOISE) ... you dont have the ABILITY to do "THIS SHIT" yourself ...
ALL the "SHIT" you got the bike shop to do, you could have done yourself. Buy a workshop manual for your bike. IT explains it all ......

Like I said man, I aint gunna complain about the money, because if I didn't care about spending it i'd do it myself, but if they gunna fuckin charge me for something, for example doing a bike checkover, they could atleast tell me my chain was fucked, instead of telling me things that actually work on my bike don't work, and actually fixing the things I asked them to do.
I thought the problem might be with the engine. The reason why I didn't think the noise was my chain, was because they checked over my bike 3 weeks ago. I had confidence that my chain would be ok. Because they charged me to fuckin check my bike. Yeah I could check the chain, it takes two seconds, but they charged me money for that shit, and they didnt check it?
I think people on here either have too much money, or are mechanically minded. I have little money at all, and am mechanically retarded. Personally I think mechanic rates are stupid, but I'm just a young student, so what the fuck do I know
Time to invest in a real tool kit I think
Note: The service and smiles were really good. Mechanic also told me he thought my Spada was one of the best running examples he'd ridden. Then again he could just be jerkin my chain :shifty:

Sounds like BULLSHIT to me ... If it only takes two seconds, why didn't you check it sooner ... ???

Get a workshop manual first ... it will be more value to mechanically retarded riders ... such as yourself .....

Dude if you keep the oil clean in those motors they will last longer than you do. I got well over 100,000k out of mine before it gave up on life. And I thrashed it mercilessly for 70,000 odd k.
MERCILESSLY.

Yeah bro I buy Oil in like 5 litre bottles when its on sale I change it every 1000 km's or less some times. I make sure I do the oil filter every 2000. Hoping to get a long run from the bike!

I did mine every 5000km and sold it at 153(I think) thousand Km, it sold recently on Tardme with a few more, not many. The new owner had neglected it a shit load, it was immaculate when I sold it to them, the paint was only 2 days old lol.
Use a good quality oil and do oil/filter every 5000, it worked for me. Keep an eye on valve clearances and an ear out for cam chain noise.
The oil filter is the same as a most of the TRX series quads, so find the part number and buy 'em in bulk.
