Fix and sell or sell as is?

As much as I love my Aprilia, if I fix it up and drop it again, it'll be the third time. And I already took a knife to my throat last time, I shudder to think what would happen next time.

Now that I've paid it off, I think it's time to sell it.

It has just over 30,000k's, new chain and sprockets, will put on a new rear tyre, the bodywork is ratty (bellypan and coil pack covers would need replacing), needs tail light lenses, plus a couple other minor bits and pieces.

Just wondering, as the title says, should I fix it and sell or sell as is? I'm guessing about a grand needs to be spent to make it near mint again. I'm hoping I could get $5k as is, or perhaps with the work I could get $7k. Would I be asking to much in either scenario?

I'd love to fix it and see it looking all nice again, but then I'll end up keeping it and crashing it. But fixing it, I might get more money for it and sell it easier. I know painters and where to find cheap(er) parts.

im in the same boat with my big bike, i opted for just sell it and have listed it on trademe.

The little GB400tt, tried to sell it for ages for a measely $500 and no one wanted to buy it so i opted to re-vin it and now its my daily commute and i just love her, although its likely that she too will get listed on trademe in the near future.

In its present state it just screams thrashed!!! so selling it for the price you want would be a miracle no less.

Fix her up, make her shiny and you will get a better price for it...hopefully!

I'd sell it as it is . In my experience the amount of money I've put into "tidying up" a bike for sale has not increased the sale price by the amount I spent .. not worth it ..

I am inclined to agree with the sell it now theory, but only if it a desirable option for a buyer.

$'s you may get now + $'s to fix = more or less than the complete sale price? That is what you have to ask yourself.

I'd sell it and put the energy into something else.

Exactly: If you are still undecided after KB has had it's 2cents worth, let the public decide. Put it up for sale as is and if you get no response you're gonna have to fix her up. From a totally personal perspective, as a buyer, I would by pass yours (even at silly money) and find another because I would have no idea how much it would cost me to fix it up nor what other damage there is that isn't obvious. No offence but the sellers say so that it will only take $1000 wouldn't have any validity for me.

As a daily watcher of bikes on trade me I can tell you bikes that have damage are given a wide birth unless you give them away, it has every likelihood of sitting there for months and you'll still be in the same position.

Hope you sort it either way.

At least get it wof n reged, get a second hand tyre and give it a a good clean, then try and sell it.

Spend the $$$, flick it off, and get yourself a decent dirt bike that can handle the shit you give it mate.
