Hi All,

I'm heading South to do a summer school course at Canterbury uni in a week but don't know much about Christchurch and the area. Any insider tips or particular things I should know about parking/ motorcycling bylaws/ awesome day rides/ charity m/c events etc?

Thanks,

Hanne :sunny:

If you aren't busy on a Wednesday Night, have a look here:
Meet at Burger King, Moorehouse Ave, 1800 hrs for a 1830 hrs departure.

Others will be along in a minute with helpful suggestions.

Parking is free at the airport for bikes. And they have a BK there. Enough said.

Motorcycle parking at the Uni is free. Just don't park in a car park :) You will more than likely see where other bikes are anyway. They have a few sheds over by the erskine building specifically and then other times by the engineering building people park them up on the side walk (out of the way).

Parking in Riccarton mall there is a space for bikes on the bottom level nearest to Pak N Sav, but it gets full quickly. Otherwise just park in a car park. Be aware of P120 signs around Ilam! They are plastered everywhere.

And make sure you park in gear so your bike won't rock off the sidestand in aftershocks :)

Though they seem to have died out..

I've had my bike since June, and there have been a couple of big aftershocks since then. But I've never had a problem with it on the side stand. And I don't leave it in gear :\

Thanks for the tips, in the process of buying a bike in Nelson and looking forward to exploring Christchurch and the surrounding area.

That official bike park can be a pain, gets full quick.

Much better is on the middle level there are some good places for bikes - the big empty space in front of the parks opposite the lift on the western end middle section, and in the eastern end middle section in front of the cars below the ductwork to the left of the doors/escalators.

Got a shiny wee vtr250 to have a play on, if anyone wants to go out for a ride let me know!
I'll see if I can get along one of the Wednesdays once my geographical knowledge expands and I actually find it
