Lads,
Anyone here got access to a metalwork shop and can help me out with a bit of cash work?
I am fitting some new Hella headlights to the AT and the originals are old Stanleys with a bike-specific surround. (parts 8&9 in the pic)

I need a bit of mild steel plate cut out to seat two 146mm headlights into, a couple of tabs and a couple of nuts welded to the rear of the plate to then fit to the rest of the front cowl sub-frame. It would be a one piece frame rather than two as this OEM shows, and there is space around the outside for material for strength.
Guessing a bandsaw or plasma cutter might be the go followed by some stick or mig welding. I can then finish it up by file and paint it. Would send the originals as the template.
Or if anyone can recommend someplace worth checking out here in Wellies then I'll do that.

Damon at cycleworks in Taita was always good at making anything as well, I know he closed up shop but I think he may still be doing stuff at home...

Interesting that you have to alter things to fit the new headlamps, mine looks exactly like that and I need to replace one of them.
I will check it out when I get the replacements for the sealed beams on the camper (same size)
Seems I may need to make a copy of what you're doing.

Yeah the thing is the OEM light unit includes the square metal surround - it's all pressed and then glued or something into place - and the Hellas have a bigger form to them (same light dimensions) and wouldn't fit inside the square frame even if I butchered the old ones out. Have a look and let me know. I'll get two made up. I'll check part numbers against the RD03 for the main subframe, if common the template should fit yours also.
Edit: yep, the subframe appears to be a common part (33155MS8611) RD03 (http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-xrv650-africa-twin-1988-germany_model7011/partslist/F__0100.html) & RD04 (http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-xrv750-africa-twin-1990-italy_model7033/partslist/F__0100.html)
