View Full Version : A Triumph with a difference

This story goes back some 44 years back when I was actually slim and had a bit more hair :innocent:
Way back, Triumph twins like the ones I had when I was a young fella weren't noted for their handling (an understatement). Some people shoved Triumph engines into Norton featherbed frames to make sublime-handling Tritons. These of course are still hugely popular with the cafe racer set. However, who has ever come across a Tricati? A Triumph engine in a lightweight Ducati frame.
All that time ago, I read an article about what was arguably the world's first Tricati in the mid-1960's and just a few days ago, had an email from the guy who built it - absolutely incredible! Have a look at this link: http://geoffjames.blogspot.com/2011/11/past-catches-up.html. I can only salute what Mick Snaith did all way back then. Innovation at its absolute best and something which is perhaps lacking today with so many bits available over the counter.
Cheers,
Geoff

Cool story Geoff, shame as you said that you didn't get plenty of photos of it.

It was so cool hearing directly from Mick Snaith. He also told me that he gave up bikes when he got married and hasn't had one since. There's something very sad about such an innovative guy never coming back to something in which he showed so much talent
Fantastic Vincati - have neaver read about one so thanks very much for that :2thumbsup

More like putting a racehorse between the shafts of an ill-handling cart

It certainly was Merv. I guess when you're young, you think you've got all the time in the world . There are other bikes I owned that having pictures of would have been cool too.

F**k me Dave, I've only just got used to normal blogging - how's an old fart supposed to pick up on stuff like this - excellent that it undoubtedly is :innocent:
Hope all is well in Aussie - haven't you cut ties with this place yet?

Yeah - it's still 'beta' from Blogger - but pretty cool gear.
Nah mate. Still doing heaps for local bike business and Kiwi Rider. These days it doesn't matter where the office is.
Have picked up some cool gigs over here as well. Doing the features for HOG Magazine now and bike tests for Heavy Duty Mag as well.
Off to Perth next week for H-D.
