Have you ever seen a good movie?
Perhaps one where you don't suffer an endless avalanche of apple pie and predictable cliche.
Or even one with believable characters?

I've tried to watch your top gun twice now and not lasted more than 20 minutes before getting angry at the wanking american greatest country on earth shit and turned it off.

Give us a break, broaden your horizons and find a real hero.

I'll stick with bond flicks, girls, cool car/bike/boat chase scenes, girls, cool gagets, girls, snappy one liners, girls, no plot/story line to try and make you think/feel/care, and the girls...

Hmm...thought I better add 2cents worth here, and should have elaborated. My enjoyment for that movie was not the acting or the story per say, I am just a big mogel with aeroplanes, love them in all forms and shapes. And Top Gun showed them extremely well. It was just pure escapism.

PS, the best part of the entire DVD, was the making of!!!

Now that kicked ass!

Also, I have just seen Kill Bill 1 & 2, I must say, that was some good movie making by tarantino, however, he has always been 'the man' for such movies.

Art house, give me art house anyday, you never know what pearlers you can get in the festival section at your local dvd store.

I know what you mean about KB 1, I did one of those 6 for $5 thingys at UV, and only hired KB1 thinking, meh, I won't need two. Low and behold, first thing the following morning I was down getting number 2. I have seen dozens of movies while being here. More than I like to imagine. In fact, I was talking to the owner of the UV here, and he looked at my movie history and referred to me as a 'foundation user'. I don't know whether to take that as a compliment or if I should get a life.
A good artsy film, even though 95% is in subtitles is No man's land!
And, it is at this point, of not working since February that I am now only starting to get to the end of me tether for things to do. Even the crosswords don't pose any challenge to me now. So, between watching episodes of Millennium & Criminal Intent over and over on DVD, I am running my fuse short.

I miss home!

Oooo, you'll just love Independence Day then

What in Gods name is the President of the United States of America (ltd.) doing in a jet fighter sending missiles into an alien spacecraft? Wouldn't he be in a concrete bunker huddled in the corner like a true president? Very inaccurate movie

The same 'top gun' cliches were in the John Wayne movies of the 40's and 50's. Just not as Cheesy.

('I'll never be over Iwo Jima!' - Flying High)

Never experienced male comradery?
yep, never got pissed and said 'I love you mate' to another man, true, but I'm red blooded hetro enough to say the movie still blows.

I don't mind cruise - enjoyed the samurai one.

Top Gun is a fantastic movie. I have alot to credit towards that movie.

You see, when I was 21 I was a furniture mover. After seeing that film over and over, I decided that fighter planes were so awesome, I wanted more.....
Anyway a few years later and I was sitting at Changi Airforce base watching F16's, F18's and C17 Globemasters come and go. Before I knew it I'd gone from lugging furniture up and down hills in Wellington to travelling SouthEast Asia as an Avionics Technician for the RNZAF.
Some movies can inspire people to go out, persue and achieve.
This movie truely inspired me.
hence why I own the soundtrack on CD, the video, the laserdisc and the DVD.
I haven't yet brought the 6.1 surround remastered DVD, but I will! and my wife has the soundtrack tape.

Did you all notice the A4 Skyhawks, used by the instructors. Awesome little planes that served the NZ Airforce well for many years.

75 Squadron Forever!

Hmmm...This sounds quite scary, to hear the word dude and Tom Cruise in the same sentence, has me huddling the cat for protection, that is the worst thing I have heard all day. The guy can't act to save a script from upper crapness. (And before I get asked, upper crappness is worse than medium crapness and so much worse than lower crapness. Sort of on the point where you have to remove your own put with a pitch fork, and you think, oh how upper crap!) Everyone seems to have lost the point of why the movie was so good, the aeroplanes and the Making Of!

Oh, and a point in redundency, what if a closet homosexual who has experienced comardery didn't like it? Really becomes a mute point then doesn't it.

Meh.

Tom was good in Minority Report, I didn't care much his acting before (and maybe after) that. Top Gun has to be compared in its original context, its created a whole subgenre (American Gunho "we're invincible" attitude) of military movies.

Its shit now tho. Like every other movie in that subgenre.

Heh mate I've thought Leo was a crap actor since Basketball Diaries. He just isn't belivable in any role.

The only movie he was in that I liked (and I'm probably gonna catch some flack for this) was Romeo and Juliet. Not because of anything he did but because of the other actors in it and the way the directors, producers and writers were able to adapt it to modern times while keeping the majority of the originall play intact.

I have loved TOP GUN since I was a wee little boy. Aeroplanes, fast cars and motorbikes have been my life since i could ride a BMX (AGE 2). I used to ride along making motorbike sounds! :ride:
The Jets in Top Gun used to make me grin. I think it is a wicked movie...through and through...but then i have a very very open mind to movies and books. People who are always saying this movie is gay, that movie is gay...just have very limited imaginations...then again...maybe i just sucked to many glue pens as a child... :weird:

Agree with you, there are better actors & better-looking actors than Tom C .... although he was the flavour of the fortnight for a good while, i don't think it will get better for him now he is outgrowing his 'puppy cute' ...........
But perleeeeze - can't agree that Top Gun' created any subgenre - Hollywood [remember John Wayne etc] was making offerings for the testosterone-enriched usa-patriot market years before that
