Hi all,
I am from Honk Kong, driving a 96 Triumph Thunderbird, more an old moto lover than the new one.
We are planing our X mas holiday touring NZ in bike, south island, any good tips, road, places to go, good rent deal and the state of road, lots of dirt road or everything is clean.

Thanks for any tips
keep safe

Hi Alex
Welcome and Kia Ora to New Zealand.
Roads are great over here. All depends on your preference. You can stay on sealed roads all day, or if you like, go on gravel road.
For sure you will get more milage then in HK, and heaps of open road.
For the open road the speed limit is 100 km/h, and fines a heavty when you go above that. And the cops are there to check it.
For what period are you intend to travel? I might have a Triumph Sprint available.

With Kind Regards
Hotte

Buy this book from Amazon, you won't regret it: http://www.amazon.com/New-Zealand-Motorcycle-Atlas-Hema/dp/1877302325. I have one myself. It gives all the great routes for bikes and what to see on the journey.

To give you a preview from an overseas perspective, have a look at this report of an American touring the south island. He has some fantastic photos: http://kiwibound.livejournal.com/2009/03/17/.

Have a wonderful time :niceone:
