Car advertising

I've been taking note of car advertising on TV lately.

It sucks arse.

It would appear then the 'car' and 'the drive' is immaterial to the number of pretty LCD screens, i-pod docks and cup-holders. Even the latest XR6's only advertising high point is the limited edition All Blacks logo on the side. The least they could have done is have a vid of Richie smoking one up (TC turned off and on a closed road of course .....).

Nary a mention of performance figures or handling. Sigh. The worst thing is I fear motorcycling may be heading in a similar, electronically induced, plug-in special future. I am old enough to remember the first BMW GS800 - I am pretty sure that one of the original ones is almost the same size as a panier bag on the latest GS.

Triumph are still pissing me off by not producing a hot-rod version of the Bonnie - F-me it is so over engineered it could easily pump out 85hp without any loss of reliability.

I fear that in my mid 40's I am at risk of becoming a dinosaur in my desire for a bit of rough in my motoring.

I still have my Top Gear DVD's to enjoy with my young son.

more shit to break and need servicing by the professionals, unless yer brave enough with a laptop and some software to fiddle with yer 40+ grand car. Maybe they've been bludgeoned to death by the PC brigade, banning them from showing the finer points of the vehicle in question...

Surely motorcycling long ago did the same,to the majority of buyers performance figures matter not at all,there astute enough to know that the performance figures are well beyond there ability to use,what matters is they think that because they own it the rest of the world assumes its not.

Well motor vechicle manufacturers have twigged to the fact that the sale of the vechicle doesn't make them much proffit, but the sale of spare parts does, and to have the service Tech to come and plug a computer into your vechicle to tell you that the wind screen wiper bottle needs filling, and only brand X approved vechile dealers can have the Programe that decodes the empty wiper bottle fault, ie it being empty, so hence you have to pay extra for the hounour of having your vechicle plugged into a computer with a fancey name for a progrme that has been altered in a minor way.
So go out and Buy your 1972 dream car, you will pay less ACC levey on it from next year as it will be a classic, then the money you save on REG, and having to have Techs having to plug ther computers in to tell you the wind screen wiper bottle is empty, you could go out and get a real Lap dance.

Not that I'm biased or anything but the new Kizashi ad was good to see this morning.

I spent 6wks researching though before settling on the Suzuki Kizashi Ltd. and the three months since purchase has only confirmed I made the right choice. Suzuki got the chassis, brakes and suspension right first, then built the car on that. It is so far ahead of the competition there really is no competition under $80k in my opinion.

Performance? It hauls and goes like a V6 with torque from 1200rpm!

It's a 1983 Oldsmobile.

And even back then GM saw fit to fit a bloody 'puter, already proving a p.i.t.a. when it comes to tuning.:weird:

allan. The trouble is most cars nowadays are plastic fantastic metrosexual clones.
All the jap cars and most euros are based on about 3 engine/drive trains per manufacturer. Then they smear about 15 variations of the bodywork over the top.
