Hi guys and gals.
Have 05 hornet with an ohlins 46dr rear shock plus racetek forks.

But I'm really not happy with the response right now, lots of twitching in the front under acceleration and under brakes especially when combined with cornering.

Can someone help?

I could travel somewhere to get help, dependent on cost etc

Sweet as. Keep me up to date on how you find it. There's still more fine tuning that can be done.

Me: So how did I go? was I too slow, or did I embarrass myself?
Warr: no you were fine.
Me: well I felt I was mostly keeping up
Warr: I don't normal ride that fast
Me: oh? what was different
Warr: well Paul was behind :)

a hearty chortle shared.

By that logic it could be said "I bring out the fastest in Warren" perhaps?

Did you increase rear preload?

yes .. and front preload
but the spring (and forks) I believe are rated for someone much lighter than me ... next step might require money :(

Yes thats what I suspected, so you purchased the bike with the suspension fitted? Can you read the numbers off the rear spring? Also your height and your weight in your everyday clothes? If so, e-mail to me robert@crownkiwi.co.nz

I purchased the suspension from HenryDorsetCase (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php/2126-HenryDorsetCase).
I'm pretty sure you sold the suspension to him (probably a few years back now)

I'll take a gander tomorrow and see if I can get some numbers for you.
Thanks

Paul.

Did you increase rear preload?

These are just my hazy recollections (wrote this stuff down but don't have the bit of paper handy)
Added 1 full turn of preload to the rear which took 5mm off rider sag so it's 30mm now. Rear rebound ended up at either 35 or 40 clicks out of 47.
Front preload is maxed out @ 35mm rider sag. Rebound is 1.25 turns out of a possible 3.

The rear shock is blowing through the mid-stroke. The forks didn't look too bad. But new fluids front and rear would do wonders.

The main problems he was having were

general lack of confidence in the front
closing the throttle at speed would cause a shaking in the handlebars - it'd shake, stop, shake, stop, shake, stop

The front already had 1.5 turns of rebound damping but had about 45mm of rider sag. (too much rebound not enough preload)
The rear had 35mm of rider sag and about 25 clicks of rebound. (rebound was ok for the preload but it wasn't enough preload)

Sorted the front first which helped, but didn't stop, the shake so I figured the rear was probably upsetting the front. Springs at both ends are a bit light, but particularly the front. The rear spring isn't ideal but it'll do the job.

Where did you get this sorted? I'm in a similar situation, '07 Speed Triple on stock suspenders at present. I've seen lots of vids and read a bit on setting sag but still want someone who has "hands on" experience to make sure I don't cock it up.

by day he fixes computer systems, and sometimes is a java programmer.
But by night he wears his underpants on the outside, and has a fun MT on his chest

Some say the very ribs of his forefathers were used as suspension joints in modern day motorcycles,
and if he could be bothered, he could crack the Da Vinci code in 43 seconds

we just call him:
