I was heading to Wellie via Martinborough yesterday and as I entered the town from the east I passed a group of about five bikes who were being given a 'safety check' by a policewoman in a black mufti.

I pootled past and parked up in the main street and sat down at a cafe to enjoy a latte.

Soon afterwards a large group of bikes arrived, parked up, and the riders headed into a cafe across the road.

I needed gas so I decided to pop over to the BP across and down the road.

As I geared up, the black mufti appeared, parked up and the policewoman headed over to the group of bikes.

I filled up and when I went in to pay the lady behind the counter said to me "You motorcyclists have a target painted on your back today".

Thinking back to all the :Police: activity I replied "Yep, must be a blitz on".

She said "We've got three already for no rego".

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"We're Land Transport agents" she replied.

I paid and left.

Huh? WTF?

Does this mean that the sweet and innocent husband and wife team at the Martinborough BP are in leauge with the devil? :devil2:

Are they doing rego checks and then calling the fuzz if the bike has not paid these ridiculous charges?

Do they get a commission?

Be careful at the Martinborough BP :weird:

more likely they get the victims coming in to pay their rego so they get no more hassle after they have been pinged by the black mufti. Quite possible the popo gives them a chance to pay their rego and tells them where they can.

Haha.
I was in that large group being pulled over.
Nothing major though, just WOF, Rego, and licence check.

If that was the same large group that was going the other way as we were headed to Carterton from Martinborough I'd suggest that you were pulled over at a fortuitous time then....

The Policelady in question has just been into the shop  Out of everybody she talked to, only one was unregistered.
