I'm not particularly a fan of hers (despite her beautiful voice), but just watching her on Close Up interview I have to say I was blown away by what a lovely person she came across as. Her appearance is obviously not your usual stock recording star, and she's copped a fair amount of derision and criticism. But listening to her in the interview, I could have listened to her for ages! A lot of people who are interview make me want to go to sleep soon after opening their mouths, but she was wonderful (as well as her delightful accent). What a grounded person; and her answer to "what do you think it would have been like if you'd been discovered at 28 instead of 48?" revealed a deep thinking sensibility. Enjoyed that interview immensely.

I concur! She struck me as being 'very ordinary', in the nicest possible way, of course.

I'd hit it.

But only if Amy Winehouse wasn't available.

It is rather saddening that she has suffered so much derision and condemnation on the basis of her physical appearance.

Strangly enough, one of her male predecessors didn't suffer so much of the same condemnation, despite being no oil painting himself:

Josh Krajcik's first appearance on X Factor USA was likened to "the next Susan Boyle".
I don't normally watch the show but got caught up in it, basically to see what he'd come up with next.

We can't all be beautiful on the outside. But Susan seems nice enough and nobody can deny she has a good voice.

I've listened to her a bit. If they can avoid over producing her voice she is a real talent. I get ribbed a lot by my daughters about it but I kinda like her....
