check the conditions after it expires, ie do you have to wait another three months before you can rego it for 1 more month?

yup thats the one, put it back on hold, but if you want to reg it inside the first three months of being on hold, you will be required to pay reg fess backdated to the date it ended. select you dates well. a three months period starting just before xmass, is a good bet.. well That what im gunna do, covers the rally season ....just

its been on hold for 11 years but i think i reg it couple years back, for a short time and never used it, I got a speeding ticket on it so i reg it 10 min later, to get off fine, from memory.

You can register it for just one day if ya like. Just go ask for the correct form from an LTSA agent and Bob's your uncle.

Sometimes their computer system will have a fit and it won't let you do it. That's when you tell them they need to ring their support line. Its only happened to me once though.

Gidday mate

I rego mine for a month at a time (just to make the bastards work for there money lol)
Go into the postshop and ask for a MR27 form...fill it in for a month Rego and it will cost you $51.87 , some postshops charge a $7 admin fee...if they do, go to another postshop! as I have found only some of them apply this charge ;)

I got that when I rego'd hubby's bike for two weeks. Went through quite a performance at the PO and made a few phonecalls to NZTA helpdesk, but got there in the end.

tyred today but it seams that if a bike been on hold they will only let you reg for a min of three months. but if was about laps ( current reg ) you can buy extra days /months

Try another place. Thats not right. Did you have the right form? If your bike's reg has been on hold longer than 3 months you can register it for only 1 week if you wish.

Repercussions of every man and his dog putting their bikes on hold !

They have changed the rules of engagement and now you have to reg it for 3 month min if it's been on hold !

Wait till they find a way to stop ppl putting vehicles on hold alltogether !

Hmmmm very odd

I have gone in twice this year and used the form to rego the bike for a month at a time?...had no problems at all and used two different PO's??
Both times I had the rego on hold, once after a year on hold, and second time after less than a month on hold?
...how strange not to see consistency from NZTA :msn-wink:

Im going in to grab another months rego next week so I will let you all know how it goes :niceone:

Vehicle - NTV650 - a dangerous (ACC) shortly to be approved as a LAM (NZTA)

Placed on hold 30 April 2011

Registered on 11 August 2011 using an MR27 form for 5 days

Cost of this was $16.17

Rode the wheels off it for the 5 days with 2,500km completed

Back on hold on the 17th August

Planning to register again this Friday, again using the MR27.

I have 4 motorcycles and been using the MR27 exclusively since the bikoi so that only one of the four is ever registered.

Go into the postshop and ask for a MR27 form...fill it in for a month Rego and it will cost you $51.87 , some postshops charge a $7 admin fee...if they do, go to another postshop! as I have found only some of them apply this charge ;)

The $7 fee is included in the $51.87. If you wanted 2 months it would cost $96.74. They only charge the fee once. Think about it 12 x $51.87 is over $600 bucks. Oh and I just did mine for the month so the minimum 3 months is bullshit!!

Good to hear about the 3 month minimum not exisiting...I will be going in next week for another months rego (handy as I can't afford to shell out the full yrs amount...bloody ACC!)
....but I won't be feeling so smug about "not" being charged the admin fee this time :killingme

I'd be willing to bet your problem is you said "I want to register this bike for X days", instead of "I want to change the licencing date for this bike to such and such" (such and such being the last date you want it registered to I think)

The MR27 is for changing the licencing date, that it can be used to licence for a day, is really a side effect.

That or you got a wally of a post office employee. Not an uncommon occurance.

My rego runs out Mid May 2014. I want to go to the Brass Monkey and then put it on hold for 3 months (yes, I'm a nana). Can I register for one month only, or say, two weeks only? Just asking to get the latest info. Thanks in advance.

Are you sure about that as when I get my reg bills they state a minimum of 3 months and that would not be stated if it was not true surely.

I can confirm Drew's information. I do it all the time.

The form you're after is the MR27. You can write down the exact date you want the rego to expire and pay the fee the computer tells them to charge you.

Yes, the minimum registration you can get is 3 months as stated on the form, what you want to do is not get three months rego but instead "change licence expiry date " The required form is a MR27. Just ask for it by name when you go in.

Late to the party but anyway - change of license label - green form, forgot the proper number for it. For a 900cc god knows how much. For a 250 its about $40.

Yes with the MR27 you can set any date (after the date your current rego expires) up to 15 months from the day you complete the form. I did it a month ago when my 1200 was due and I thought I would get in a bit more summer-time riding (wrong!!) so set the date the WoF expired (which coincidentally is today. Shortly after extending the Rego period, I filled in the online thingy to put the bike rego on hold - this takes effect once the rego expires. If you fail to put your rego on hold, you will either have to pay for the gap in rego or after 12 months(?) your bike is deregistered (bad). Last year I also set the last day of rego to the day after the March Hare rally. Cop at the breath test at the rally thought I was 'cutting it fine' but it was just good management:innocent:

I only use the MR27 now as I alternate rego between my two bikes. DRZ will be rego'ed in a few days thru to late Sept. Never had any problem with counter staff at the AA testing station.

Easy routine to follow:
1. Before current rego expires or while rego on hold, use MR27 to set expiry date X days months in the future and ride da bike
2. Within a few days of 1. put bike rego on hold for 12 months
3. Over 3 months after rego (in 1. above) runs out and before 12 month hold period expires, repeat from 1. above and ride da bike.

An even more simple routine to follow would be:
1. Place rego on hold for 12 months, then after nearly a year is up, try to remember to put bike rego on hold for another 12 months
2. Ride bike

To keep things simple then the standard form should just be 1 day to 12 months and there would be no need for a second form but I guess having the second form offers additional employment to people who would loose their jobs if the NZTA just had the 1 form.

Yes but if 'they' do it this way, folks who don't know better will have to pay out for 3 months and that way 'they' make more money

Bingo, exactly why you have to visit an agent and can't do it on line.

Stupid phone / Tapatalk, apologies in advance.
