what a way to ruin an amazing bike. He should've just bought a dual purpose bike or dirt bike if he wanted to play in the mud.

Flat trackers & their derivative street trackers are some of the coolest most stripped back bikes you will ever see

Actually Chris Haldane Motorcycles has/had a 999 that was stripped and rebuilt as a dirt tracker. It was for sale and there are videos floating on Youtube of it being ridden/raced here in New Zealand

Correct. If it was good enough 30+ years ago to turn a state of the art GP bike into a flat tracker, it's good enough now.
I'd love to own it.

Wrong. No Desmosedici's were harmed in the making of that motorcycle. If you read the feature in the magazine you will see they are at pains to point that out. It could be unbolted, and put back to stock.
the other point is that that bike is the guy's THIRD Desmosedici. Yes, THIRD: He has one in a crate, a rider, and this one, which was a repo. (He runs Ducati North America's finance company if I remember correctly: i.e. $$$)
Also, Lets not get too precious about it, eh? Its just a bloody motorbike, get on it and thrash the tits off it! Which they did. :)

I've heard of that guy before too, was he on nitro circus maybe?

Yeah its fantastic and I agree with crasher when he compared it to the King's TZ tracker - what a hoot.
Now all those poorly handling Ducati GP bikes that Rossi and co tossed around, maybe they'd go better on a dirt track too, but they'd need dirt trackers like Stoner (and maybe Nicky if he's still up to it) to ride them :niceone:.

A bit like skinning a panda for fur jacket, or whale sashimi. It works great, but you're killing a limited-availability endangered species.
Should've done it to an 1198R instead.

When you see how it handles on the road I think it's worth it, to be able to chuck it into a corner in a slide then pull a wheel stand out of the corner is pretty epic. I'd rather have fun and enjoy every corner and straight than have it sitting in a shed (or more realistically a lounge center piece).
If he offered you to ride either his stock Desmosedici or the flat tracker chopped version what would you choose? I'd choose this one. :ride:

the guy has three Desmosedici's (Desmosedicii ?) this one, one in a crate, and a rider.
I really like it, as I said before, and his bike, his money: he can do what he wants.

I love it. I love the flat tracker thing.
I saw an R1 turned into a flat tracker, complete with retro yammie colors. Looked fuckin primo.
I want one. If I wreck my vfr and the engine still goes, I might make my own.
