Nolan & Garmin?

I am unable to get my newly purchased Bluetooth Nuvi 1390 to recognise my Nolans fitted with N102 & N103-N43-N85 basic kits.

Does anyone know if there any way they can be made to be compatible?

My phone connects too, but it seems that my problem is that the Garmin won't and thus Bluetooth is not always compatible with Bluetooth?

The "Interphone" is not a phone but a bluetooth headset. It connects with either my phone OR with the Garmin Zumo 220. BUT it does not connect to both at the same time - it's either one or t'other. Could this be affecting you too maybe?

Seems to me that the connection you want should work...but then I ain't no technogeek so my opinion is probably worth shit. Do Nolan have a website with compatibility data anywhere?

When you say you can't get them to connect... what exactly do you mean?

Sometimes, one device will have trouble pairing with the other, so have you tried both ways, initiating a pairing from the Nolan and the Garmin (but only one at a time). Are they both discoverable (your phone should be the most useful at finding available devices).

Or have you found the devices, chucked in pairing codes (if required) and then they won't sync? Are the pairing codes correct for respective devices? I'd also find the compatibility charts for both devices. While not the be all and end all of functionality, it may indicate why you are having troubles. As slofox has also mentioned, are all devices OK with 3 way syncs (some devices only pair with one other device).

The reason I went Bluetooth with the Nolans was to connect to the Garmin nuvi 1390 as we are planning a back road trip in Aussie for next year.

The path I followed to "affiliate" the N-com in the Garmin instructions was the same as for the phone, which worked fine.

With the helmet in its affiliation mode the Garmin displays the message - that "It can not connect with the Bluetooth device" so it knows it's there but seems like no go.

As a #8 wire solution: is there a (compatible) Bluetooth device available that could relay the audio into the helmet? Then it would be transmitted to both helmets.

It sounds like you're connecting the GPS to two helmets, the phone to one helmet? And perhaps something else. Have you checked that each of the devices you're interconnecting are able to handle that many?

As slofox says, his Zumo 220 will only handle 1 bluetooth device at a time. The zumo 550 will handle 2. The Nuvi 1390 is a car GPS, so it's design intent is different, and possible it has different restrictions on what you can use at a time.

What is the exact model of the GPS. I'm getting more results for the 1390T, but they vary by region, so depends if you've bought a grey one in NZ, or genuine NZ etc etc

It is a 1390, the 1390T is an American model with slightly more features. I am attempting to 'affiliate' with the Rider's helmet although I have tried it with the passenger helmet.

Hi Bill, good to hear you have your new equipment, if you go to www.n-com.it follow your way to the n-com area, go to gps compatibility, you will see that Garmin recommends the nolan bluetooth system, I did not see your model listed but open one of the models and it gives you update websites etc which may assist, this is all we can do this end, if your model has A2DP compatibility and you have followed all instructions in both books, I will be surprised if it is not compatible, you may need to update via the web?? I do not know how old your model GPS is. Regards Leigh.

I have picked up the Nolan helmets from Ericksen Honda, thank you.

I seem to be in a bit of trouble - as one of the main reasons to go Bluetooth was to connect to my Garmin nuvi 1390.

There appears to be compatibility issues.

Are you able to advise what alternatives are available to enable the devices to communicate?

I've done a bit of dredging around the Garmin websites and have noticed one thing that might explain your problem.

There seems to be a difference in the claims regarding bluetooth when you compare the zumo 220 with nuvi series.

The Zumo says "Bluetooth technology, helmet or headset only." Which means it connects to a headset (mine does!) or a helmet (like the Nolan I assume).

The nuvi says "It includes Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free phone calls...". Which, to me anyway, means it will NOT connect to a headset or helmet but ONLY a phone.

Yeah, I think you're right there.

So I want a product that will receive the Garmin Bluetooth signal and then transmit by wire (Or a product that can affiliate with the Bluetooth in my helmet) into my helmet via a jack (Or if necessary, an earpiece speaker.)

Any one know a product that will do that?

An update:

I have tried and succeeded with no problem whatsoever to affiliate my N-com Bluetooth with a Garmin nuvi 765.

Therefore the 765 performs the same as a Zumo in that respect and not all Bluetooth send AND receive.

I had no luck pairing mine so sold it and bought a garmin zumo 660 and baehr intercoms, works a treat.
