Well....I was nearly not going to do round 1 of the summer series as Dad was busy, but thanks to Mike and Rogan Chandler + family I made it up :)
Saturday morning we met up and packed the bike on to their trailer, bags in the boot and off we went to Taupo! We arrived at Taupo around 4.30pm, just in time for scrutineering, whoop whoop sleep in on Sunday here we come :woohoo:
Qualifying
It had only been two weeks since i had been to Taupo so I could remember the track pretty clearly, I didnt do as well as I had hoped to but qualified 8th out of 13 on the grid with a 2.09, 4th in Streetstock only 0.4 seconds behind the next Streetstock racer William Dadson (#34).
Race 1
I had a really bad start, was 2nd to last into turn 1 but managed to get past another couple of bikes in to turn 2. I managed to catch up to the Streetstock bikes in 3rd Zane Burrell (#103) and 4th William Dadson (#34) and on the 2nd to last lap did a epic pass (I must admit) up the inside of William Dadson in to turn 1. Catching up to Zane Burrell on the last lap in to turn 1 I stuffed it up the inside (nicely) and pulled away by a second on that lap to finish in 3rd in Streetstock with a 2.04, 5 seconds faster than qualifying.
Race 2
well this race was a bit more eventful than I had planned for it to be. On the warm up lap I felt sonething flapping around and hitting my leg, looked down and found my side panel had come off and was only connected by a cable tie (my new best friend) so into pit lane I went while everyone was on the start line revving to go. As I slowed down, Mike ripped the side panel off and out I went once everyone else had gone past. I managed to get passed a few bikes on the first lap, catching up to Zane Burrell and William Dadson. Coming into turn 12, I see Rogan picking his bike up....well thats one less Streetstock i had to worry about...on the last lap I had planned my pass, I was going to take both Zane and William on the inside into turn 11...Then Rogan came up the inside of me and stuffed it up damit, geez I nearly took him out. Well crossed the line in 5th in Streetstock with a 2.03.
Race3
Got a better start than my other ones but they still arent right. Had a couple of battles with Zane Burrell but then got distracted by the gliders going over us...realised he was getting away and tried to catch up to him to make a pass but it was to late, crossed the line in 4th in Streetstock with a 2.03 again, the same as race 2.
Was a good day and had alot of fun 4th overall at the moment, aim to finish in 3rd. Thanks to: Ride Life, Moto Academy, Heidenau Tyres, DP Brakepads, Billy, Mike and Rogan Chandler + Family, and the PMCC volunteers.
