No but there actions don't affect my rego fees as much as the riding and crashing done by fellow riders does.

Not sure what ammunition they will get from full compliance with the law. Should everyone wear hi-viz as well?

Stuff and nonsense. While the Police may get tut tutty about motorcycle apparel, if a rider is wearing a "securely fitting helmet" and isn't offending public decency, all the cops can do is collect statistics. They can only uphold the law. Fortunately ATGATT isn't legal. New Zealand already has way too many stupid, unnecessary, unenforceably laws. Please don't give us any more.

This is what the cops and regulators are most likely to be interested in. http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/5999798/Motorcyclist-badly-injured
I doubt that a fluoro vest would have made a jot of difference in this case.

I shall press my leopardskin latex mankini tonight so that I'm freshly attired and hopefully some big hunky cop will frisk me (blush)....
Sigh!
Just the thought of the fucking moron from ACC that plastered those scooters in cloth of tasteless hues giving me a lecture on motorcycle apparel fills me with horror.... argh!

Damned if you do eh.

Well I will be running the gauntlet tomorrow on my way to work. Should I receive any kind of lecture, I will remove my kevlar pants, jacket and gloves, stow them in my top box and continue my ride in jeans and t shirt. Fuck the safety nazis.

If THEIR actions involve motorcyclists, in the end result of those actions ... the bias of the reports of those actions, do not favour motorcyclists ... Statistics DO affect your fee's by way of ammunition for the powers that be that SET the fee's ...

Fark it this is a case of dambed if ya do and dambed if ya don't. So everybody goes attgatt and the nice fulla from ACC says "ya see a law change won't affect those scum anyway because they are alerady wearing the gear"
Deliberately ride in the minimum gear. Jeans tee shirt and a hoodie and Mr ACC man goes "ohh we must right away have a new law to protect these idiots from themselves"
IMO the best idea is IN THIS CASE to be in stealth mode. What they can't see they can't report on.

They would be better suited cruizing the Paekak Hill Rd and correcting the riding techniques of the road cyclists who are usually 2-3 abreast across the Rd and will blatantly keep doing it regardless of who is behind them. We nearly took out three on the wrong side of the Rd...Lycra undies and a shower curtain raincoat would of done stuff all to save them from 380 kgs of Boulevard

Or he says "I see they are all wearing the gear yet still getting maimed and injured at an unacceptable rate and being subsidised by car drivers. I know, let's limit everyone to 125cc. Oh, that won't work, let's price them off the road because we can't ban the bastards"

The only answer is to stop having the avoidable accidents.
(And to stop clutching at the straws of trying to excuse your accidents as one of those 'unavoidable' ones).

Until ACC classes motorcycle accidents as "no fault" like ACC coverage is meant to be we are all screwed regardless of the number of accidents we do or don't have.
Maybe instead of the safety board guys worrying about hi-viz and poop on the road they could do something to educate drivers about motorcycles and cyclists, hell maybe they could teach muppets not to over fill their f'n diesel tanks and dump it on round about's while they are at it, I'm sure ACC would be as happy as me if they sorted that puppy out. <_<

It's a term used by safety nazis, people who force their point of view onto others like religous zealots, old farts who hypocritically expect the young 'uns to ride sensibly now that they've got old and slow, and those who love to cry about others pushing up their ACC levies while they themselves blat around town at 187kph but it's ok because they are wearing all the gear all the time.

It's Latin for "poorly reasoned cause and effect thinking". It's based on the belief that what you wear will stop you falling off and motorists driving into you.

Ummm, what does 'attgatt' mean? Everyone 'cept me knows.
ATGATT refers to magical materials, which if not worn ensure you will die an early and painful death, but if purchased in the colours of your favorite racer make you invincible.
Helmets, and various kevlar products have the most magical abilities, and the younger you are the more likely the magic will work.
Once your helmet and other ATGATT products are securely fastened, you are safe, and may ride in any manner you choose, as you are highly skilled, and have the magic gear.
There are silly old cunts that sometimes don't wear all the magic gear, particularly the magic helmet. They make our ACC more expensive, and should be attacked as Darwin candidates at every opportunity.

I must have one of those magic helmets as one moment I was riding along and the next I transported into an Ambulance, I always new my X-Spirit was a magic helmet.

Whereas some people view it as giving themselves the best chance of survival when things go wrong.

Whereas some people view it as giving themselves the best chance of survival when things go wrong.
And there's my biggest concern regarding this emotional subject. Taking active control of one's ride has little to do about clothing or the perceived quality of that apparel. It's about anticipating and planning for things that could go wrong.
And until the cows come home we could argue the merits of what "all" means in the ATGATT cliche. If it means apparel that minimises the risk of abrasion, then there will be no disagreement from me. However the religious amongst us have a completely different view. Particularly when it comes to things like fluoro vests and impact protection. And let's not go anywhere near the Church of the Knee and Toe Sliders.
