View Full Version : I've finally done it...

Yup after 5 years of ownership, I've finally dropped the Guzzi, ..literally. :(

On the way to work this morning,..sitting at the front of the queue at the lights off the motorway onto The Terrace, a huge gust of wind came tearing up and caught the left side of the bike,. I tried desperately to hold it up, but it had that much force and the bike bike is no lightweight, so down she went.
A guy in a 4WD jumped out of his wagon, raced over to help me pick it up. Asked if I was okay and proceeded to tell me it's too nice a bike to do that to..lol ( a bit tongue in cheek and trying to make me laugh I think).
Injuries? Got a banged up knee. The bike isn't too bad, ..only a few scratches on the RHS bike and a bent brake lever.
I think it was more of a demoralising and embarrassing episode than anything else.

Amazing how people sit in their car and don't help you, I know for a fact I would have jumped out and helped had it been someone else in the same situation.

Anyway,..rant over, time for a strong coffee !!!!

That sux eh.

I did a similar thing at the end of my street - only time the bike has been on its side.

Did you hurt your knee throwing yourself under it ? LOL

I feel for you. Concentrate on the guy that helped you and not the ones that didn't. Enjoy your coffee. It is meant to blow through be this evening, hopefully in time for the ride home.

He was right. People like you, doing things like that to beautiful works of art, don't deserve to own them. Since you've now proved you can't be trusted in your custodianship, tell me where it's parked and I'll come and rescue it from further abuse...

Haha good one, MSTRS John !!!

Yeah got a bit of a sore back and knee now.
That dude was really cool for helping me out, I should look out for him on my commute again and properly thank him.

One thing that has come out of this is that since my RHS muffler has a little scrape on it, they have to be removed and some louder ones put on... good case now to try and get Mrs Nudey to approve !!!

 Someone hand to point out why I braved a trip into town (wife driving) instead of this. Sorry it had to be you.

A chap here almost got cleaver'ed by a giant 'Floors for Lease' sign that ripped off in a gust (from our own building too).

The Guzzi is pretty "fall-over" resistant.
No marks on the tank or cam cover guards.
No bent bars

Only muffler, bar ends and brake lever (which bent, not broke).

Glad to see someone stopped to help you (surprised actually...they usually just gawk and then drive off)

Hey Nudez - sorry to hear about the wee drop, though from the title I was thinking Pete had finally made you cross to the dark side and get one of those agricultural implements he peddles

Ahhh. that's the reason Chris. No high vis vest!

Seriously - bad news and it must have been one ***k of a gust of wind!

It was the biggest gust of sideways wind I've ever experienced before. I guess not having any forward momentum didn't help...but basically once it reached that angle, only having one leg fighting the "heavy son of an Italian bitch" from toppling just wasn't going to happen.
I think the Guzzi was having a go at me for not commuting on the EX-4 instead !!

I can vouch for the power of that gust that took him out. I was walking on The Terrace and was almost blown into the air!
In 40 years of living in Wellington, never experienced a gust that strong! Once it stopped, I walked towards the James Cook hotel and saw nudemetalz pull up on the footpath for a quick look at the damage. I guessed he'd taken a tumble, didn't actually see it. The bike looked in good shape, that is, apart from being a guzzi ;)

I doubt anyone could have withstood that gust being hit from side on and stationary, however I was surprised to see what looked like a GSXR1000 turning up The Terrace at the same time you pulled up on the footpath. Amazed he didn't go down too, as that fairing must act like a sail.

Hope the knee is on the mend anyway dude! Pretty damn windy today, so watch out !!! :wings:

Gixxers don't get blown about. It's something to do with nano technology making them so sleek and slippery that mere wind has no effect.

Thanks Buzzard. It was just that sudden burst of wind up the Terrace that got me. Was okay after that.

I feel for that poor lady that got the face plant that 4 million people saw on the news !!

You're lucky it's only the wind you had to worry about. Auckland has had a bit of that wind also, plus these days we have the odd helicopter falling out of the sky that we need to look out for
