One of the funniest vids I've seen for a while. Well worth a watch. Age & Experience and a poor young guys ego crushed

Bloody good. Amazing what you can do with torque, a rev range up to 5000rpm instead of squid zillion and a hot tyre.
Now I've just had my bike dyno tuned and I've got 76.2 bhp at the back wheel. Those top fuel dragsters are history.

All I saw was wheelbase beats handling in a drag race of 300ft.

All I saw was wheelbase beats handling in a drag race of 300ft.Exactly. The old guy new exactly what he was doing "age and experience" Any distance longer than that, the blade would have smoked him

V4 would be interesting in those conditions

Nice flat torque curve and plenty of low to mid range grunt around 3 - 6000 with 12,000 top end with a useful spike around 4000rpm. I tried a new V Rod last year and discovered it needed more revs than mine starting off and lacked midrange plus being some 30000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 kg lighter

You have to work hard to get a sportsbike off the line quick smart, due to the tall gearing and power sitting higher in the rev range. Had a play with a mate, him on a 06 ZX10, me on an 05 CB900, and I beat him twice in a row, simply because of a lot of low down torque.
Once he was making some power, he could walk right on by, but at least the first 20m were all mine.
But seriously, who cares about a tiny drag, with parked cars and not nearly enough space?

On the flipside, I know a certain 250 owner than kept up with a certain 1200 sporty till about 120k's
:innocent:
I'd have to say wheelbase and center of gravity played a huge part in this deviously (See what I did there?) short drag run.

Off the line you might have a small advantage over an IL4, but that would quickly be lost once the thou rider can apply full throttle. It's not the gearing that affects my bike for example, nor where the power sits, but keeping the front end planted.
This may not be flat, but my bike definitely isn't lacking low down torque.

A couple of years ago I was on an early 70s Bonnie belonging to a mate, and a late model real estate agent special Harley pulled up beside me at the lights. He looked at me, sneered (open face lid) and stared at the traffic lights with just a little more than idle on the throttle, so I guessed he was going to show the poxy old Brit what power is. Long story short, at the next set of lights he pulled up behind me.

As said by the famous Capt Jack Sparrow "The only rules that really matter are these: what a man can do and what a man can't do"
He knew what he could win and what he couldn't win, and set up the race accordingly.
Well played sir.

Well played sir.
I was more assuming he set the race up short enough so he could stop at the end of it, no front brakes is not ideal!

What a terrible launch on that CBR.
Old dude on the chop is a cool guy though. I loved his chin guard.

Well played sir.I knew as soon as old guy lit up his back tyres that he'd done this before. I reckon he's also earned a dollar or two on wagers
