View Full Version : I'm having real trouble getting used to it!

I'm going through a very painful withdrawal from biking! Everywhere I look, (and even where I don't look I hear them!), bikes everywhere and now the weather is warming up there are ever more of them around the roads!

Old bikes, new bikes and bikes in between! Small bikes, large bikes and medium bikes of all types, of all engine configurations. Some commuting, some cruising, some playing in the traffic.

Male, female, solo and pillioning, everywhere and every day my eyes and ears are assaulted by the sight and sound of MOTORCYCLES!!!!!

Please, someone, make it stop!

Then, like today, I go back to a customer who has now signed up to be a dealer for Shorai batteries and in his showroom is this XJ600 Diversion at $1000.00 off! :argh:

Did you sell your bike?

It doesn't get any easier. I still yearn to be back on a bike, still buy the occasional bike magazine (self torture!) and seem to see them every time I'm out driving...

I even went into a bike shop the other day... just to sit on one - how sad is that?! AND it was a Honda!

Word of advice... Don't break your back, (twice!), and then discover you have Osteoporosis and your surgeon bans you from not only riding bikes but pretty much all physical activity that you used to enjoy...

Nah, I'd only want a bike more. We've got the MX5 for sporty fun but even that is not viable for too long at a time.

Why? A classic trike is inferior to a spyder in every way.

And they're a lot more ergonomically correct and comfortable than an MX5.

I know the feeling: there was a four year period when I was POOOOOR and didnt have a bike. It sucked.

Given your issue is health, could you perhaps consider something like a Can Am Spyder, or one of those Harleys like Piney rides in Sons of Anarchy?

Not trying to be a smartarse, serious suggestion. It strikes me that with either you would get to put all the gear on, wear the helmet, and get the whole wind in your face thing. No leaning of course (but a cynic might suggest that wasnt the M109's forte anyway). ;)

Lolz! My C50T was fine in the corners. I can't afford another toy right now I've sunk everything into my biz and it's going to be a few months before I have much in the way of disposable income again.

The Kizashi is more fun to drive than an ordinary car has any right to be and for wind on the hair and exhilaration the MX5 is more fun than a barrel full of monkey's!

why dont you just immerse yourself in bikes another way such as marshalling, i see they are wanting volunteers on this site.

It may be another form of torture but it may be a way to still be involved and give back to something you loved, may be able to soak up some of the goodness from others etc

just a thought.

I'm still very involved, especially with the Shorai batteries and plan on attending as many race days as I can. Paeroa is a certainty, well as certanly as I can be at this time, and I plan on attending others to catch up with the three racer's I'm sponsoring, too.

Have you had more than one opinion?

Yup! Every medic has told me to be very careful from now on as I have only two vertbrae left to keep me upright, (and I fractured one of them, the L4, back in July!), and with the Osteo I'm prone to fracture. It will take a couple of years more before the treatment for the Osteo makes much difference if any and my second fracture was from falling over a trailer, so imagine the stress on my back from falling off a bike. I'm not allowed to run, jog or play tennis and have to be careful about lifting and bending, even as regards getting stuff out of the boot of the car.

Likewise, mate! I always enjoy meeting KB'rs and have met some really good people! Sold my wife's gear to a KB'r and she was lovely! Her partner took a big box of my magazines that I was wondering what to do with and was going to put them on KB for free. He was stoked and I was happy!

Ribs are annoying, I broke one falling down our steps and that was so frustrating! Took ages to heal up, too.

Otherwise stock, but good nick. Plan on getting out and about with it this Summer! Had it three years and only done 7k in it!

Well Edbear I aint going to lie to you.It does hurt and it takes bloody ages to get past it.But hey, the life expectancy goes sky high and the cost of constant upgrading and modifying stops.
I'm only cash strapped presently, but I'm sitting on a bike that's already been off the road for the last 18 months.
Now it needs a New Exhaust, the one I had repaired (welded up ground up and returned to the chromer) blew out at the junction of the rear pipe after just 2 months of pretty heavy use.
OK, I can live with this, even though it's already cost me heaps to repair and re chrome.
Worse, I waited almost the entire 18 months for the painter to finish his work .When he had finished it the great guy brought it over and helped me put it on the bike.He told me he'd never painted anything as nice as this and that he loved it.l did too, believe me.
3 weeks ago I took off for the FBMC Waiheke TT memorial ride, had a great day enjoyed the company and we made some kids bloody happy to see us and accept our days worth of sponsorships and donations.
But when I returned home I nearly cried, ask Mom , she knows how big I am.
Over night petrol had run from the cap all over the tank, both sides and the L/H side cover, leaving scores that have gone right through the hand painted tank clear and paint all the way to the metal.
Yep it's back with the painter/artist.He loves me, he must do, he's doing it again.
Me, well I'm back to the 2 fiddy that the wife kindly lets me ride.
I feel for ya ED, take care mate.
Chins up lads, there's always someone out there that's worse off, though sometimes they're bloody hard to find.

Like I said, if you're going to have three wheels you may as well have four. Nothing can replace a bike, and the MX5 is about the most fun you can have aside from a bike.

A trike is the combination of all the disadvantages of both a bike and car. Can't lean in corners and takes up the same room as a car. Still need the bike gear to ride them though.
