Just got back from visiting a very good friend. He was on a ride to Akaroa today with a group of friends. He was on a Ducat Diaval and mates on Harleys. He was heading up towards the hilltop (about 4 corners back) when he was confronted by another rider overtaking another bike on his side off the road. Both riders took evasive action......... but collided!
The guy being overtaken (Triumph speed/street triple) was not involved. My friend ended up off the road - down the embankment and other party ended up down but on the road. My mate was not impressed as he was on his side of the road (albeit near the centre line) the other rider initially stopped and was shouted at by my mate(understandable in the circustances).
He then prroceeded to pick up his bike..... straighten out what he could.........AND LEGGED IT.:shit:
Luckily the following bunch managed to get Ducati back onto the road....... missing mirror / bent brake lever / all scuffed down rt side. My mate has a hand the size of Africa and a foot peg shaped hole in his boot & LEG.
The bike in question is believed to be a DRZ (or poss RMZ) motard. The rider had bright orange with white leathers. no one managed to get a licence plate as it was a bit twisted. Apparentely there were a group of motards quite a bit ahead of the lone rider.
Accidents happen BUT this is not the kind of response i would expect from another rider ( car driver maybe)
CHCH is a small place............... you cannot hide forever................. if you read this have theBALLS to own up.

The guy who i know is a genuine bloke who loves bikes and all that goes with it............ he has help sponsor my race team for a few years now.............. so i will make it my business to find Mr Motard.

Ring round a few of the bike shops ... see if anybody needs parts for those or similar bikes ...

Maybe ring the Akaroa cop and see if anybody with that description attracted HIS attention ...

There are so many idiots on bikes over those hills, about half the time I ride over to Akaroa on a summer weekend there are muppets riding on the wrong side of the road around blind corners.

This is one of the major factors stopping me from heading to Akaroa on the bike. In the car I've been overtaken around the outside of the car on corners where I couldn't see what the hell was coming and I wasn't taking it easy. If there had been anything coming the other way there would have been a major accident.

I won't ride to Akaroa until I've got a bit more experience and can try to avoid something like this. I get it's an awesome bit of road but sometimes you just have to use a bit of maturity.

I really hope you find the fucktard on the motard .

C@nts don't have testicles.

Seriously though I guess motard-man being in the wrong, facing a charge of dangerous driving and facing an angry biker shouting at him might consider doing a runner to be a valid action in the heat of the moment ... just as some might consider doing a runner from the cops to be valid ... and that action has been endorsed by enough heroes on this forum.

But yeah, what an utter prick!

...it's a scary piece of tarmac Merv...even tho its on my doorstep, I wouldn't go near the hilltop rd when the suns up and the twats are about...first time up the hill a couple of weeks back and second corner up, a chook chaser on one wheel, looking very uncomfortable, nearly took my head off...the poor pricks in the car he mono'd past shit more than me, I didnt get a chance to even squeeze my sphincter...

Not to be confused with me. I don't ride motards.

Post up if you find Mr Motard though. Public verbal flogging and all.

I find that road is all good on the weekdays, just weekends it's best avoided. There's the odd traffic cop on the straights as well on the weekends.

Stangely enough my friend is not angry at Motard rider for being on wrong side of road....... he accepts that it was unfortunate circumstances.... and these things do happen.
What he is really pissed about is the guy doing a runner.
He is however always gonna buy Tecknic gloves from now on............ if you see the impact that they had on the kevlar knuckles its surprising he has no busted fingers. Good gear.

There's a Harley rider who knocked over a parked VTR1000 in Raglan last week.
The note he wrote and left on the bike said "I'm writing this note because there are some people watching me".
The world is full of cunts.

I note in your original post you say "My mate was not impressed as he was on his side of the road (albeit near the centre line)the other rider initially stopped and was shouted at by my mate", but can he say hand on heart he wasn't leaning over the centre line and did he expect him to stick around if he was shouting at him? We see too many stories on here about bikes colliding head on so how come that happens and there is always 2 sides to every story so should we be publically trying to flog one party in this story lynch mob style? I'm surprised Katman didn't ask why was your mate near the centre line on a very busy and winding highway as he could easily have hit a people mover, a truck, a bus or a car doing that let alone another bike? What were witness accounts? How had your mate and the motard guy been behaving prior to the collision? If he believed he was right why didn't he focus on swapping name, rego, insurance details, drawing up crash site details and if necessary call the cops?

Is it wrong I feel knocking off, being knocked off or binning bikes and dodging roads because of behavour is all just a bit to casual?

A well that's just the way it is...

I have asked some questions on this matter.... at point of collision Ducati rider had braked as much as he could already.............. motard rider did same and actualy crossed the lane even further in doing so( as you will be aware trying to straightn up / down hill while on an increasing radius only sends you wider)......... point of impact was on Ducati rider side of the road on the side furthest from centreline. They hit handlebars and motards foot peg punctured Ducati riders foot. He decided to bail as he didnt fancy a trip over the edge too.
Dont know circumstancs of motard riders day...... but ducati rider was about 2 corners ahead of his bunch consisting of Harleys (and guys who ride very cautiously) After looking at his bike down the embankment (& shouting at the other rider)....... So you would have been calm as a cucumber at this point eh!!!!! He was about to be civilised as all parties were still alive and swap details when the motard guy did a runner. Nobody had time to take any details including Triumph rider who was being overtaken.
They considered calling the police but thought the Akaroa cop would probebly think it seres the bikers right.
Not a witch hunt on here just putting out the word................ time will tell...... loose tongues will reveal all.

Sorry for the sensational title. I need to contravene the KB code here and keep things in perspective as I DO NOT KNOW all the facts.
A friend of a riding friend was going to Akaroa on Sunday 20/11. He was riding his near new Diavel and was a few turns away from the Hilltop. Apparently a Motard owner, possibly on a DRZ, in Orange[?!!!!] leathers came around the corner, overtaking, coming down the hill, but on the wrong side of the road, forcing the Diavel owner off the road, where he fell off on grass. The Motard owner rode into a fence. The riders were not seriously hurt. The Diavel was rashed up. The Diavel rider and friends helped recover the motard to the road.....but then the motard took off!!! This is as much as I know, and is a second hand account of one side of the story. Accordingly, I am not here to pass judgement but to request anybody who can shed more info on the story. especially as to the tard riders identity to pm me, so I can point point him in the direction of the Diavel owner[who is somewhat upset].

well the problem i see is that your friends mates were on harleys..
in my view if they had been on any other bike they would have been able to chase down this motard rider and sort him out, but since they were on slow harleys that is the reason why you have no info..

yet again, another reason why not to ride a harley.

good luck with ya hunt thou and im sure who ever he was he has read about it on here or one of his mate have by now, as chch is a small place and there aint to many motard gangs out there.

Hey guys ya know much as I hate to admit it there may well be some truth in troll boys comment.
NOT that a harley is slow or any of that stupid stuff
Simply that IN THE EYES OF tard rider--- he's all alone and just slammed into "a big bike" The big bike rider was definitely with a bunch of his mates on Harleys. The rider he hit is shouting at him and theres a bunch of harley riders heading towards him in a menacing manner.

Hindsight is a wonderfull thing and I really do hope that the tard rider fronts up to your mate swerve and apologises.

No way am I defending doing a runner from an accident
Would I take off? Definitely not
