Central Otago roads have been awash with bikes all week ... groups of three or four about average. But a few groups of ten or more ...

just checked the site and the beach racing is cancelled due to the weather
"Beach Racing - Cancelled
The weather gods have spoken, and we're sorry to have to cancel the NZ Beach Racing Champs. The Friday night Rally entertainment is still happening from 7pm, with Neil Chilton & The Business followed by rockers Sniper Alley until late.
Fingers crossed for a better forecast this weekend!"

Be a real shame if the weather dictates proceedings down there.

Yeeaahh.....it is a tad windy at the moment. In fact I've got my trusty Stihl nearby and have been looking for downed trees/branches in Queens Park. A bloke can never have enough firewood.
I haven't been out to the rally site yet but it is sheltered and has a huge pavilion so everybody will be fine.

Yeeaahh.....it is a tad windy at the moment.
It's been gusting 80-100 km/hr in central Otago for most of the day. It's turned into a southerly ... so anybody heading south take care. Forecast for tomorrow is no better ...
Bring your Stihl up here ... plenty of "firewood" lying about ...

Excellent. Its probably all willow which is fine but burns like snow before the sun. The nice thing about Queens Park is the occasional elm or other hardwood falls over and that burns very hot.
Raining here now too but the lads and lasses will be in a good mood I'm sure.

Well, CB and I headed down Thursday afternoon, a dry-but-wind-blasted trip I can tell you, mostly head-wind and at a guess between 70 -80km.
Set up the tent OK - and marvelled at the poor choice of some regarding their chosen camping spot!!
Most moved to a better place the next day.
Even our spot was getting a tickle-up from the wind, we had a steady rain of pine-needles and the constant roar as the wind went through the pine-trees made it hard to sleep for CB.
Beach race was cancelled due to the wind but we watched at Teretonga as they guess battled the wind - some unorthodox looking lines/angles on soem of the bends.
Met one or two KBers plus other familiar faces I seem to see only at the BM.
CB had a gutsfull of the wind by late Saturday arvo so we buggered-off home and then rode down to Wyndham today for the street-races - a magic bit of entertaining, a must for any motorbike racing type to watch.
Home now, bikes washed (it seems it wasn't just pine needles that landed on them - evidence of a copious coating of salt-laden moisture was noticed on sensitive metal parts) and put away.

I was there the whole week looking after the Britten, shame as I only meet one two Kbrs, Not Scumdog whom I would have liked to have met !
we could only show the bike at the wednesday night speedway and teretonga as t turned out, I wasnt going to risk taking the truck up to bluff for the hill climb and there wasnt room for the truck at todays street race, however heaps of people did get the chance to see it and the truck, we got the GTR R35 out and the 996 RSR Porsche out to which was a hit with the bikers.
Wind sucked
The best thing was the incredible genuine southern hospitality ive got lots of good examples of it, pity us northerners have lost the plot:crazy:
