Unfortunately, the male motorcyclist was already dead at the scene.

Fuck I just drove past this, thought I could see a bike but wasn't certain. It's just around the corner from my work and there are multiple police cars there and about 4 streets blocked off.

This is devastating for those of us that knew him, and I'm sure for many that didn't.
I would say to keep him in your prayers, but he'd probably give me a slap for doing that. Rest in peace then.

Now its looking like funeral will be a show of bikes, but nothing set in stone as yet.
And I will lay my last dollar that the main thing they blame the tragedy on is the fact that he was on a bike.

Gasson Street is a shocker. It will take engineering to fix it's problems, not enforcement or education. Pulling people over on that street only creates more problems and since Christchurch drivers are the worst in the world ie: don't give way, follow too close and think being on the road is a right and not a privilege (which can be taken from them), education is simply a waste of time. It's a four laned road with multiple intersections including traffic lights and stop signs, visiblity is poor and traffic not only speeds, but is diabolical during peak times. I totally agree with your comments, but unfortunately we don't know there is a problem until there is one. When the rider was at Sportzone he was always a pleasure to deal with and knew his stuff. He had the honour of being known simply by his first name.

I have been around to see Joe tonight as he has come home to be with family and friends. Kim has asked that those who have stories of Joe that they would be comfortable to share to put some words down, so she and her daughter have something to remember Joe by. If you would like to do this you can PM them to me or request my email via PM.

Sometimes you read these posts regarding a fallen rider and you are quite detatched. Other times you can feel the clear sense of loss and hurt across the whole spectrum when someone 'special' has gone. This is one of those times as he seems to have touch so many lives.
Vicki and I feel for your loss my friends and our heart goes out to those left behind.

Damn. Been away camping over the weekend and just caught up with this. Joseph was a top bloke. He sold me my CB400 and he was happy to keep getting the odd problem fixed 'under warranty' even though the official warranty ran out months earlier. Always greeted me by my first name whenever I walked into the shop. It would be the least I could do to accompany him on his last ride.
RIP Joseph.

My turn to correct you now sweetie! The cop didn't pull over the "cager", the cager (a van in fact) was already parked there. He got in his "cage" and attempted to leave the house he was visiting but couldn't because the bikes were obviously arriving en masse. The cop asked the guy to wait until it was clear and then waved him out. The cop didn't realise the situation, the cops were asked by the owners of Street and Sport to assist with traffic control. Since both bike cops and their Sergeant are all avid bikers it was their pleasure to stop traffic. Anyway, the driver of the "cage" was quite happy to wait and the people in the house were quite sad about the death of our friend, since they knew him. So the cop didn't give him a lecture at all. Just like the same cop was having a chat to one of the bikers he happens to know. All of a sudden a drunken scumbag, clutching a "woody" or similar at 1.30 in the arvo, staggers up to the cop and tell him to "leave the guy alone".

This is a special thank you to everyone that was on Joe's last ride. I knew he had a lot of great friends, but had no idea that there were so many of you. You all made that day so much easier for me, as bikes were his life and who he was. It was an amazing sight and an awesome send off. One he would be proud of, so thank you.
