I got caught in a heavy downpour the other day and my leathers ended up absorbing as much water as they kept out. I've seen some cans of spray-on waterproofing at places like Mr Minit but they always have pictures of shoes and handbags on so I'm not sure if they'll work, or make them waterproof but soften the leather too much.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

SnoSeal is great.
Bees Wax products can be easier to apply and don't smell of Kero like the above
Dubbin (maybe - it is more for boots)

All of them work best if the leather is warm first. The pores open and more product is absorbed, giving better and longer lasting protection.

The bestest thing to re-waterproof your leathers is NikWax Leather Restorer.

Leather can only be made "Water resistant" (for a time) ... what ever treatment you apply ... it will need done again.

Even if it DOESN't rain in the meantime ...

Saw this at the Plains MC Sundown Rally was impressed. Next rally I'll be getting myself some of this. It used to be sold at Radical Choppers....Anyone know where now?

100% true.

And if leather does get wet it takes ages to dry...PITA.

+1

I use SnoSeal for all items and it works great, will take a while to get everything done and needs lots of brush polishing after. But the leather comes out looking as good as it did the day you bought it. Do it out under midday sun for best absorption. ;)

Ususally for any product you apply, the leather will need to be warm/hot to apply. And this is the only reason I own a hairdrier!
