Just spent the last two hours GPS tracking my phone all over Auckland after some bitch lifted it last night.
Waited until it stopped near an addy out west, grabbed a couple of the boys and paid a visit.
Nice fucking house, made sure I didn't stand on the roses. Knocked on the door, she's looking a little worse for wear. Looks a little worse still when she sees us.
"Oh........"
Goes and gets the phone, gives it to me. Didn't have to say a thing.
Gotta be pretty stupid to steal a smartphone huh?

Nice.
What kind of GPS tracker is it?
Is it an app or was it already inbuilt into the phone?

Hope you called the cops, dishonesty starts off small and then progresses to nicking cars/burglary....
Thieving cunts should get what they deserve, a decent hiding but since we cant do that at least a police record.
Good work on tracking them down.

Hope you called the cops...
Complete waste of time. I've heard of two other cases like this involving smart phones - the police didn't want to know, even when given an exact address where the stolen phone was located. Very low on their priorities, apparently...

I did speak with them to get an idea of what my options were. The lady I spoke with, while friendly, pulled the customer service trick of saying a lot about nothing.
I presume when this tech becomes more widespread the cops will amend their procedure, otherwise they're gonna have a lot of angry people turning up to smash these fucking fiefs.

I'm looking for an Android app that can do a similar thing. Anyone here have any suggestions?

Wheres My Droid. find it on the android market. I installed in after Feb quake in case there was a big one again and my wife was trying to find me. She sends the text "Bananacakes" and it responds via text with a location within 10m. Or you can text another word to find make the phone ring until found. Even turns it off silent or enables GPS to do what it needs to do etc.

You should have taken a picture of the thieving cow when she realised she was busted!!

"Lookout" does this as well. also checks for malware, backs up data and offers the option to remote wipe your phone. Had it on my last 2 Androids. Great app. Log in with your PC and you can make your phone scream, awesome when you know your wifes login :innocent::angry2:

Yepper, not interested unless there is blood, and even then not so much.

At least, and posted it everywhere, particularly in the area she frequents.

I reckon a thread on KB should sort it

No worse than stealing someones phone and putting them to the trouble of cancelling it, paying for and getting a new one, and in this case running around town to fuck knows where to get it back.
Anyway, my comment was tounge in cheek so get stuffed and you can stuff your red rep too..

I have a tracker on the bike…
I’d be a little pissy if my phone got lifted, but the term “murderous rage” wouldn’t even be close if my bike went.
Can’t believe the attitude of the police, yea ok it’s not high on the list but a knock on the door with a warning will make most toe the line for a while at least.
