I got Mianfreight to get bike from auckland to palmerston North cost me 175.00 i picked it from the depo
Exellent service great price well loked after they wraped it in protective carpet over the tank on a pallet
was really impressed getting a vfr 750 Moved next then vt 500 from wellington been qouted 193.00 for the vt 500
You need the dimisions of the bike weight etc , where the pick up is from etc

its the only trucking company i found that do it your need make sure no petrol is in the tank also for saftey reasons

Cheers - firstly asked for pick up from Gisborne specifically :D I've used mainfreight before, they were crap IMO, delayed and bike arrived with damage - nzmotorcyclemovers.co.nz are way better or biketranz.co.nz

The problem is no one seems to go to Gisborne to pick up.. Looking for a way to get the bike picked up from Gisborne and delivered to Dunedin.

tried captain transporter, jeffs, nzmotorcycle movers, biketranz, motorcyclemovers.co.nz so far, can't find any more companies on the google machine.. wondering if there are anymore?

If you're not in a huge panic, I'll be up in Gissy in the semi near future and will happily put it on my ute and bring it to Welly for collection from one of the transport companies.

Not even close. But the way I read it is he's tried biketranz, and they don't collect from Gissy. So the fact they did a good job for old rossi boy from Napier, is kinda not that much help.

Cheers mate, that is a generous offer. I have had a little bit of luck with nzmotorcyclemovers.co.nz they recon they are doing a rare run to Gisborne Tues 6th dec and could pick up the aprilia for me. Fingers crossed it works out. If not I could be sending you a message to take you up on the offer :) haha. But I'm up in Taupo in 4 weeks anyway so there is plan B of riding it somewhere myself.

Yeah no worries mate. Dennis of NZ Motorcycle Movers is a gc and will do a good job if he goes, he does all of our collections and the deliveries we don't do personally.

But yeah...if you're stuck just sing out. I've loaded hundreds of bikes and driven thousands of km's and haven't fucked one yet...so your baby will be safe with me.

I've done Wellington to Gissy in 5 hours flat in my car/ute a few times when no ones looking. Hate to think how quick it could be done on the right bike.

Yea I haven't been on a bike on the North Island at all yet, hanging to tear it up! driven most of the North Island in the car though. Might be worth picking it up and riding it back to Dunedin for a big bike mission. Not sure how the 2 stroke will like it though.. such long distance kms, lots of hours. :) we'll see, hoping that nz motorcyclemovers will work out.

Haha, yea I'm gonna be watching the Mrs carefully.. thinking of ways to protect it when it falls over lol.. how about strapping mattresses each side?

I got NZMotorcycleMovers.co.nz on the job, They are picking it up next Tuesday. They were the cheapest 450.00 door to door from Gisborne to Dunedin, and they were the only ones that would go to Gisborne to pick it up for me, Bike Tranz didnt wanna know about old Gizzy at all, nor did most of the other companies I tried, there were a few. Captain Transporters would go there but they wanted 689.00 to get it here and I think it was only depot to depot.

NZMotorcycleMovers.co.nz alll the way (not to be confused with motorcyclemovers.co.nz they arent that flash)

Looking forward to coming out for a little group ride on it.

Are they universal or do I have to find a kit for the aprilia rs250 now?

depends, havent owned an RS so Ive never looked up bungs to suit. Some kits require you to cut a hole in the fairing to fit them, or you can get a 'no-cut frame slider kit' which is as the title suggests, it comes with a bracket that bolts directly onto the chassis, and has a bung attached to it.
Just make sure you ask the seller if it will suit your bike as some kits can be a bit different

I might give the RS a crack on an open road mission Dunedin to Chch maybe. I was just worried about reliability of 2 stroke motors.. worried it may crap out on me on the open road cruising at 100 (ish)

Ok, so the bike arrived with NZMotorcycleTransporters. They were good. Fella was friendly despite having just driven from welly! helped him get the bike into the garage and then we had a yarn and fired it up.

It needs a lot of TLC.. which I was kind of expecting seeing these Aprilias still ask around 4,500-5k + (seen this model for 7k at a dealer) and I got it for less than half that.

Ran out of time for photos today, so will do them tomorrow. The strip down begins though so won't be riding it tomorrow at the ride, might bring the blade out if weathers nice.

This RS has obviously had previous owners that had very little mechanical knowledge and had no interest in looking after it which is a shame. Both the throttle assembly on the right clip on and the lightswitch assembly on the left clip on were loose as fuck and they have shagged the clamp mechanisms (the screw to clamp em tight doesnt grip anymore.. not sure how hard this is going to be to resolve :S) so need to look at that and repair them so they no longer move around and slip off the clip ons - Went to open it right up and the whole throttle block just twisted around with me and then I nearly pulled it off the end of the handlebar!

Missing a ton of screws nuts and bolts, had cable ties holding things on that really needed a nut and bolt haha - so need to find some of them from a hardware shop. The sidestand was barely on, the 2 bolts that mount it to the chassis were loose and could be turned with the finger, same story around the bike, front mud guard was barely on nor were the indicators. all needed some tightening up.

umm yea, she needs a fair bit of TLC, but im looking forward to it. She'll be right.

Motor needs a good looking over, took it for a bit of a test run, she starts and runs mint, sounds very good, however when trying to hit power band it made a noise I felt shouldn't be there, once or twice the noise disappeared and I had a good rush of power through the power band, but it returned again. So going to check powervalves first (when I find someone to help me and give me advise) and if the powervalves are OK then will strip the motor down and have a look at whats going on inside. When it did hit powerband it was very smooth and very fun though.

Hmm, on the plus sides everything is there and everything does work which is good, has a little LCD screen read out and onboard timing thing, so can see my lap times on the track or whatever, digital temp gauge, voltmeter, and a clock. Useful stuff at least. Has a fresh wof and reg, new tyres and chain and sprockets.. I'm quite happy with it.

Put it up on stands and checked all the bearings n shit everythings tight and nice, suspension is quite nice and is fully adjustable so will have a setup session later. and the brakes are very nice. Big Brembos on the front and a little single pot brembo on the rear.

exhaust and expansion chambers are mint, I wonder if they have been replaced as most examples ive seen are scratched up/little dented. Makes a great sound. one kick starter too, pretty happy with that.

I wish the engine didnt make that noise sometimes or I would be thrashing the tits off it now but I think I better check it over before I ride it, I'd rather resolve the noise or find out what it is now, than have it go bang.

But yea, there it is. my new Aprilia RS250 - will keep me busy giving it some TLC and then I'll be thrashing it.

Going to post up a new thread in the maintenance bit and look for a bit of a 2 stroke nut that lives in Dunedin.. to guide me with going over the engine. if you know anyone tell em to PM me. I'd like to offer them food, drink, smoke and women in exchange for their expertise.

can help out mate, happy to. sounds like it just needs 5 years of maintenance in the next few weeks, totally doable.

there are a few places in dunedin that supply nuts and bolts and shit. Id suggest a bit of a strip down, and just replace as many as you can see, bolts nuts and washers cost fuckall. Might pay to re-tap the threads on nuts and bolts attached to the bike too, just to clean the fuckers up a bit.

Yip, shes already naked in the garage, ran out of daylight and no power in the garage. its a pain. I have the garage with the bikes in it, and then another shed elsewhere on the property which has the work benches and tools and power.
And yea they are very simple, I just have no experience with powervalves etc so would like someone that can look at mine and tell me exac whats going on, if they need replacement or what to do with them. or even someone that could identify the noise that is happening during acceleration. May flick ya a message or if I feel brave I may ride it out to the pub before the ride for a look if ur riding tmoro

does it lose power when you get the noise, or is the power still as linear with the noise as it is without?

yea will check alot of things tmoro when I get some day light, plugs out, leak checks etc, it could have just been a misfire/dropping one cylinder as yea when it made the noise it did not make the power. but a couple of times it seemed to sort itself out and made smooth clean power with no noise. and it didn't matter the gear. being smoother with the throttle helped though. I really only rode it about 7km I think. it was at operate temp though.

yeah I dont even think rebuild kits are too bad price wise, and with a new bike, it doesnt hurt to pull the fucker apart and give it a good looking over anyways. I never trust a seller when they say what its had done etc. I try to do a service in the first week of ownership so I know for sure.

At least if you take it apart and do shit like checking the reeds and plugs, clean powervalves etc etc etc, then youll know the basic shit has all been done, then if the noise persists, the basic stuff has already been checked, and you can get on with diagnosing shit like piston slap haha
