Hi, Sorry first post, hope i'm in the right section.
I brought a new (2nd hand!) Zxr a few weeks ago with the intention of getting into racing. and after pulling it to bits as far as the engines top end I called a couple of bike shops who tell me I can't get gasket kits or new piston rings. Is anyone able to tell me this ISNT true! Hopefully someone knows a source? Considering the number on the road I find it quite unusual.

Since their an imported bike most shops don't keep/have the information to know which seals ect they actually need. Best bets are to try your local Kawa dealer, or take the old seals/ect in to your local bike shop and see if they can match it up to something else.

There are a number of companies that make gaskets - the yellow Pages is your friend, adn any vintage car person will know them.
I have used Shuk Engineering in Henderson, Auckland in the past with good results. They are a LOT cheaper than OEM as well
