Hi Guys,
Please note this is NOT an ad to sell my bike, just after a bit of advice...
I am being transferred to Singapore for work and unfortunately can't take my beloved with me due to it being (just) over 3 years old. Work has quite a generous relocation package which includes a clause which lets me flick of my vehicles for whatever I can get, and they make up the difference to true market value. This means the pressure on me to get the best price is gone, and someone is going to get a sweet deal on a great bike.
So...
As it needs to be done in the next week or two and I am flat out with everything else what do you think is my best option:
Trademe
Turners
Selling to a bike shop?
...
I am guessing the bike shop is probably easiest for all the paperwork etc, but are they going to give me at least a half decent offer as I really don't want to rip the compay off too much, anything over around 60% of what I could get if I took my time would be ideal.
Appreciate your thoughts...

What's your companies policy on pet transfers, as I have $170, 2 cats , and a fish (with bowl).
Seriously trademe would be best, as you get the entertainment of all the stupid questions, and the excitement of the final minute bidding.

Your probably to honest to flick it to a mate for a few bucks with the intention of him "buying" it, get paid from your boss then when you get back give your mate some money for storing it, get a new battery and be on your way.

Houseman - What bike is it? If a popular model, you can certainly get a good price on TM. If not, it may not move if on TM and your best option would be a dealer or sell it to a friend... or an enemy if it's ugly and unreliable. Heh! Heh!

It's a honda based on your profile so not worth much. I'll trade you the wife, one careful owner, low mileage, not riden much (we're married), comes with twin airbags and a few other goodies. Plus I'll throw in the cat.
Seriously good luck with the sale. Depends on how much hassle you want. As your employer will reimburse you I'd try flicking it to a bike dealer or even listing it on here for offers (reasonable) as you'll have an idea as to what its worth

Leave it with a dealer to sell on behalf, that way there's no hassle for you selling in it in the two weeks before you leave. You'll have hassles enough with your move without having to sell your bike too.
Pros of giving it to a dealer to sell on behalf. It will sell, eventually. You might get a slightly higher price than if you force a sale through in 2 weeks on TM or such. The bike will be looked after. You won't have the hassle of selling the bike before you move.
Cons of giving it to a dealer to sell on behalf. They will take a slice off the top, say $1500 or so. You will get e-mails asking if you'll lower the price. Don't know if your company has a time limit on their offer to make up the difference, it may take some time to sell through a dealer.

Rhieneck wasn't that bad compared to Mako.... it got to the point the local indian bottle store gave it away , for any amount of any beer you bought he'd match it with Mako.
Strangely enough it still took a looooong time to get rid if the pallet he had.

This is good advice. Also it could be argued that the difference that the company needs to make up is the deallers commission fee.
Whatever action you decide to take you'd be well advised to try and determine the companies view of "market" value before selling.

Thanks for all feedback guys, really helpful. You are right about the last point, I'm worried all the "yeah, no she'll be right" before I sell, will turn into "that's about all it was worth anyway..." once I sell. So want to make sure I tie the buggers down to market value before putting it on the block. That's the thing with multinationals, they happily force you to shift your entire life over seas within two weeks, but anything you need from them, well that takes time I'm sorry...
Will let you know how I go.
P.S. I had a spark of inspiration last night to sell the scorpion pipes seperately as "market value" is bound to be the same with/without so the originals can go back on. Sing out if anyone after a cheap set of great pipes, about 5k km use...

For those interested the bike is a 2008 red Firestorm, 18k km, mint.

trademe $1 reserve, a shop will just rape you for a profit.
buck reserve means someone else will get a good price on it - do a biker a favour!

pretty much by definition auctions determine "market value". This would be exactly the thing not to do if you don't want to get screwed by the company come re-embursement time.

a lot of modern big bikes come with a set of pipes/mufflers so there's no shortage of either originals or 'pipes as the next owner has often got an option
probably better to leave both sets with the bike then you'll get people who want either or interested,. it's a buyers market out there

..... and they make up the difference to true market value.
A quick trawl of retardme has fireyawns at $8k market value. There are also a few on motorcycle trader for a wider range of prices, but same sort of average at $8kish. So you should have a nosey at both of those to get a view as to market price for yours for year, mileage and condition. Print a few of those out and that should suffice for evidence for the above.
Then qucik flick on retardme for a low reserve and evidence of quick sale price, NOT, market value and Julian Cleary is your uncle (it is a honda after all)
EDIT: I see you paid $9k for it 18 mths ago and had only 10km on it at the time, so $8k sounds about right if still similar - and red goes faster than black so it should sell for more.
