I believe the White Rock end has been locked up for some time now.
Another option is from White Rock Rd turn south onto Ruakokoputuna Rd, 60 km return to Sutherlands hut.

Yep all that, plus you need to let the iwi land owners know too.
None of it too hard, but you'll need to be polite, patient and make it clear youre neither a rookie on an unsuitable bike or a kid on a motocrosser.
None of the custodians want the hassle of rescuing a stuck or injured idiot, they get pissed of enough with some of the 4wd's on the organised traffic jams, sorry, drives, when they have to send the tractor in to pull them out...
I worked hard to build up a relationship with DOC, Farmer and iwi (all of whom are not exactly 'friends' with each other) so if you want the details PM me and I'll pass them on - not gonna just post them up.
I'd like to keep it that I could call them all, and get access again.
