Free weekend 2nd-4th Dec, NO USAGE METERS!!!, the catch???
"The company hoped the promotion would result in people discovering more they could do online." i.e. we want you to spend more when we charge again. (not a problem for most)
Heres the offical vid

and a dompost article (while it mentions Wellington this is nationwide) (http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/business/innovation/6047436/Wellingtonians-to-get-unlimited-internet-this-weekend)

My guess is Telstra's "testing the water" & relying on this 'skynet' to "control" people on the download front

you guys are so kind. My guess is their metering platform needs fixing so rather than saying there will be an outage they have spun it as a free for all. Good bit of PR.

Compass are advertising no limits as well for $79.95 naked broadband. www.compass.net.nz so maybe skynet has dropped usage patterns.

TelstraClear has proper glass fibre fed broadband, not that ADSL speed limited nonsense that gets wholesaled by the copper wire confederation.

Damn my broadband is slow now, it's normally 15Mbps on the same servers. Last night I was down to 3Mbps maximum on several different servers. I quit all my torrent and other downloading apps before doing these tests.

cant say I noticed too much speed probs, maybee a little sat night but other than a few youtubes I was mainly downloading anyways. Reckon I managed 130gig down with prob another 40 up over the weekend, didn't quite get all I wanted but not a bad haul all up.

Surprisingly too I'd say a good 70% of that was all totally 100% legal, with another 20% being in grey area, the rest well we'll just let skynet decide how legal they were :innocent:
