My Partners father is a keen rider, and we are trying to encourage him to come visit us here - he's Norwegian and I thought for Christmas I would get him a book about touring the country... I know we have the best rides in the world here and wondered if you guys and girls could point me in the direction of a good book to help him plan a trip...
Cheers,
Blazar

Hi
A must for all visitors and locals is "New Zealand Motorcycle Atlas" 100 Top Rides by Peter Mitchell.

As above, you can't do much better than Peter Mitchell's books, New Zealand Motorcycle Altas, and Great Escapes - A Guide to Motorcycle Touring in New Zealand.
They give good descriptions of ride options throughout the country, with all appropriate sundry information. They are ruggedly constructed, designed for reference use when touring.

To be honest, I dont think you need a 'motorcycle' specific book. A ordinary Atlas covers all the roads, General travel books point out all the places of interest for various regions.
The Motorcycle Atlas by P Mitchell doesn't have anything in it that other maps dont have. Half the fun of touring by bike is following your own ideas / plans.

Have you actually read it?

Fair enough, if that works for you. But it's not what the OP asked for.

I realise that for someone visiting NZ that it may be of use to them planning a bike tour ( which is what was asked for) . I should have qualified my post by saying that as a kiwi, I wouldn't probably refer to it.
