chin warmers

brrrr. 6:30 this morning on my bike. rain, wind, horrid.

the onyl part of my body thats unprotected at the moment is my chin and upper neck. apart from going out and buying one of those full balaclava's, what do you guys to?

A scarf would do nech but not chin, unless maybe it was really really think. I dont have a scarf anyway.

My hi viz vest has a high collar and when zipped up comes to my nose. I do up the helmet then push the collar in around the opening of the helmet and neck. I discovered by accident how effective this is the other day when I put on a rain jacket over top of the vest. Only works on the full face helmet though it does keep the neck warm.

My mate bought this silk balaclava type thingy from an outdoor shop (dwights canvas etc..) Not only is it light and feels great on your skin (cause you know that's important) it is sooo warm it's almost unbelievable! Sorry not sure what they're called though . . .

Get one of the neck warmer things being sold on KB (look in Online Trading). I got one, it works. Otherwise, classic solution is a scarf.

(I can do Mr Holy Roller's trick with the high collar on hi-vi jacket, too, but it's a bit uncomfortable.)

Hmm. My scarf does me just fine around the chin and it's not overly thick. Of course mine is a blue and gold 'Otago' scarf so probably much more robust than the black and red ones you generally find around here. :whistle:
I do wear a sleeveless jacket thing under my normal jacket though and that has a collar which I can zip up to cover most of my neck. The scarf then is wrapped twice around the chin and knotted in front of my throat. Just dandy!

I have a lot of chin warming stuff because I had cold chin syndrome with my Honda,then I took the screen off and got airflow to the helmet and it went away.I use a silk balaclava most often,have a poly one too if it's cold,got a real fancy ski one that was incorrectly priced at a Motomail sale,tube scarf and a thing called a Windjammer that goes around the base of your helmet,that works well,but comes off in the twisties when my head moves a lot.

The night before the Rally at National Park I decided some form of neck warming thing would be good. So I bought a $5.99 scarf at Pak n Save that was about 6" wide, cut it at the right length and ran it thru the wifes sewing machine and bingo - instant neckwarmer. Comes up and covers my nose if I put it on right. Works really well.

Ironically at the Rally there was a quiz thingy and they were dishing out prizes....what did I win? a neckwarmer!! (Thanx Quasi)

Squirrels wouldn't be too bad. I'd be more concerned about walking too close to a Chinese restaurant.

I got one of those fog off face mask's and they are the shniz! Very nice and toastie.

Gets abit stinkie from the condinsation, but a quick hand wash n it's all good again.
