No, I looked at this a while ago but I don't know anyone who has done it.
Really interested in hearing what you think as I was a little bit put off by the 'guided' part.
Would love to know how it works with so many people being at different riding levels.
Is it that they go the pace of the slowest? Or do they have multiple staff?
Do they used marked tracks?
I'm a lot slower than the boy so if they went at my pace, he'd get very frustrated very quickly.... but I'd worry about being left behind if the tracks weren't marked well and there was no one riding at my level.

There are 3 different paced groups that you can choose to put yourself in. Can change at various stages through out the day too.
Cant wait!!
Best terrain in the country!

i did the single day version of this a few years ago, when it was an industry ride, we went right out on the pole track, i think we did something like 120 miles that day,
it was one of the best days trail riding i have ever had, you will have a ball,

We did the single day, Boundry ride, last year and was the best ride, not alot of people and rode for about 8hrs, very similar to the Tusik Buster, except a few different racks thrown in.

Yeah, there is a limit of only 100 riders so should be good.
And really for what you get quite cheap.

Man if I was still in the north island I would be doing that ride!! done alot of hunting in the boundary blocks of the army zones and you get around on motorbike, always remember the trip i buried the bike upto the front mudguard in a mudhole at 1am in the morning, it was great getting back to red hut that night/morning. It would be a hell of a lot of fun doing it as a trail ride. Dam living down south!

Yep that was an epic days riding. One section had about 30km of pure tussock whoops. We called it the rhythm section.
I remember that we got to the hut about 1600hrs and we were asked if we wanted to do another 50 odd km loop to link up. To a man everyone said "fuck that" wheres the bar?
The industry ride is invite only and is on this coming Thursday (goes to even further extremities than the Boundary buster) and is the tester to ensure all is good for the Boundary Buster and TB.
Last weekend there was some new terrain put in to test all and I'd suggest that riders don't over estimate their skill level for this one. If they say a section is for experienced riders then it really is for experienced riders.
Take some warm clothing as its still bloody cold in certain areas around the training area this time of the year.
Good ride as said and a ride report would be good for the feedback.

You all ride to the first point (maybe 30-40 minutes) which is quite easy. Then you are divided into groups depending on level and if your boy wants he could step up. Either way there are fast ones and slower ones in every group and he will just get a longer rest at the check points(read smoko, lunch etc)
The tracks will probably be marked at major intersections, but generally its follow the leader and there is a couple of tail end charlies to account for every one.

Thanks for that!
We might look at this next year if I can talk the boy half into going along. Hopefully by then, I'll have even more confidence too.

Completly agree! Awesome weekend riding! Best terrain ive ridden on.
They were right about the changing weather conditions. 4 seasons in half an hour. Im sure everyone was feeling the wet and cold saturday afternoon no matter how many layers you had on.
Big thanks to everyone that put it on.
Will post some photos later on.

if anyone's interested in going next year theres some pics of the 2012 ride @ http://www.kaseus.net/gallery/boundry-buster-121215
whole weekend was really enjoyable.
well maybe a bit of a stretch to call the tussock on saturday afternoon 'enjoyable', more like freakin hard work with KTM's overheating all around (mine included, gotta get a fan), honda's blowing clutch's, SX-F's battery dying (no need for a kick start sounded like such a good idea) and the general fitness of IT geeks not really suited to hours of tussock bashing.
joined the "cruisers" on sunday for a more relaxed ride but even that group was riding at quite a good pace and the terrain over the "other side" is pretty damn awesome.

It was a great weekend. glad you didn't get my faceplant coming back from Mordor on Sunday.
two guys that joined us (cruisers) last year on the Sunday said our pace was quicker than the sly-dogs.
now next year i would like something between the mud bath (2011) and the dust this year.
I fitted a fan kit to the ktm after one ride at Woodhill, so much for being told the overheating issue is a myth.

There were other KBers there?
Being the inaugural 450 ride for me (on an 07 450 6 days) I joined the cruisers on saturday which was easy but dusty riding with our group leader getting abandoned when his Husky fell apart (round one to KTMs!). I enjoyed the relaxed riding and tour guide approach to the day but could have used a bit more off road. Joined the sly dogs on sunday which was a better fit for me althought they were riding a lot more relaxed pace than saturday and had a great day on the western side of the desert road as well as the quick loop back over B20 (somewhat steep going down that....) and the usual Tussock Buster tracks back to Waiouru.
Great weekend, all ready for next year.
Oooh, the 450 was a blast too, best move I have made and has lived up to my expectations completely. :woohoo:

:
Yeah I was there (KX125 with 503 on number board) - I joined Sly dogs that Sunday too - as the first day was just too much road riding in the women's group. Got split up on the first day and did some of the tussock track, which was much better!
Sunday was good fun, until I went through one of the water crossings and my bike drowned, then I fell off into it! Got it started again (carry tools and secure spark plug thankfully) and then went over the handle bars 3 min later! :brick:
Was B20 that hill after lunch? I like going down more than going up.
I thought it was well worth the long drive.

Think I recall seeing you, at least the bike sounds familiar.... B20 was the downhill, in lots better condition than at the tussock buster too! You weren't alone in the bike drowning or swimming events, every water crossing had someone taking a dive, was quite entertaining, especially as it wasn't me doing the entertaining for a change. Waiouru is a great venue, it's on my must do list for any ride down there.
