no injurys sustained in this crash............but KBers will be pleased to know that i was wearing my ACC protest T shirt when i did crash on the western lakes road just out of Turangi on the first day of my Burt Munro trip this year..........Ran wide on a steep downhill righthander which tightened up on the exit.........got right over onto the still new part of my new front tyre trying to steer round it then she just ploughed on straight ahead off the road and ended up in a stormwater runoff sump hole about 7-8 feet below the road...........
Suffered badly bruised right leg and foot and a number of bruised/cracked or broken ribs on my right side.
Upon hauling the bike out of the hole.........Many thanks to Brenda i believe who stopped and supplied the rope and some extra muscle..........discovered the only damage was both mirrors gone, front brake reservoir smashed and some fairing damage............all levers and controls intact........front brakes still worked......bike still rode straight and true...........so carried on.
replaced reservoir and fitted an aftermarket mirror in CHCH and still had a blast of a trip..........

I think I see the problem...it looks like the airflow got disturbed in that huge crack between the top of your pants and bottom of your jacket (see pic 5) which caused the rear end to lose traction. Perhaps some gaffer tape between the pants and top would fix it?

Heard of late apexing? Try it - keeps your head away from the centreline, for a start...

Rear brake cover could have helped to avoid the ''ran wide'' bit of which you speak. The bike sits better on downhill corners I find.
Dont need much, just a smidge.

There is two corners on Takaka Hill that tighten up like that one and the other one is a left hander half way down the hill towards motueka...
The left hander of course slings you under the wheels of oncoming traffic while this one only cuts your head off on the fence...
The left hander, ones you know it can be taken at speed while this one is always a bastard...

Typical, ya break yer bike and then carry on to the BM.
On ya mate yer a bloody leg end!
Told you about too many pies at one sitting before, I'd surmise that you'd not yet got them fully digested and that the extra weight on that side took it's toll on the corner and threw! you off balance.
On a more serious note, hope the injuries are all going away fast and with no ill effects.
You was lucky this time mate, take care out there ,K.

It's idiots like you who push our ACC levies up. Or is it household insurance Fire Service levies? I can never remember.
Anyway, stop doing that.

'Saggy rear end' problem observed:msn-wink:

The problem was the auxcillary afterburner (due to all the pies and possibly a bottle of coke shaken about) cut in at the wrong moment resulting in traction being broken in the rear.:wings:

really?? you lost your fluid reservoir but the front brakes kept working? pretty epic.. I'v lost the fluid out of the reservoir before and that was it.. once it sucks bit of air in there they are useless
