View Full Version : Ride Intrest Check - Summer night city ride (AK)

Ive done a few, not many, country road rides, and Ive found that I dont really appreciate them as much as other riders, also I like the idea of a slow night ride (get your clear visors out) on a nice summer night with a good moon. maybe early december or mid january. A group of bikes (tank cams a plenty) cruising the streets of Auckland North -> East -> South -> West -> North (a circuit)

the first circuit I thought of, which is kinda NW only.

start at MT Albert as in the mountain itself (only cos I live there :)) then head out north up GT North road way around to Massey North (westgatge shopping centre) then down to albany and into the start of beach road. which is in Long bay If I remember correctly. smoko. then follow beach road through the shore then over the harbour bridge and then up New North Road back to Mt Albert.

I dont know the way around south and, well by east I mean auckland central. (Up Queen St if we can :))

Who would be interested in such a ride?
Can I get some better route suggestions?

Ideally, trying to stay off motorways (except for the harbour bridge) and do the 'main' roads in each area.
for example
Shore = East Coast Bays road or better Beach Road
Central = Dominion Road or New North

I can call a 'friend of a friend' that might help with some of that.

but I was thinking something more like a big pissup at mine. good routes to get anywhere in auckland from mt albert

If you're after a night ride around the city with a bit of excitement. Just hang out at the Quay St McDonalds on a saturday night and race the cars

Yeah... seen that happen before. Some guy on a gsxr 250 across..

Saw another on a 05 gixxer 1000 getting a good talking too from the police - they were probably trying to protect the revenue gathering boy racer's pride. :devil2:

just have to make sure that no one gets left behind at the sets of lights...lol.

Now I wonder how many KMs all up it would be? :ride: :ride:

Now where did I put my neons... And my open face helmet... (to interact with the ladies) and my FXR!! Best bike for harmless lowspeed but still very cool looking stunts!!!!

I might just pop out to see what's the go like. If there's too much attention being drawn, I'd have to gap it before we end up with hefty bills from the ladies and gents in blue.

umm, many many KMs of traffic light laden, cage infested, po-po patrolled, frustrating city roads? There's a pretty good set of reasons most rides are geared towards the open road.

A serious thought to consider might be the different commitments to lane splitting various riders have and how to keep the bunch together. Remembering that at the time of year being suggested there will be heaps of other road users also "crusin" and prolly not paying too much attention to those annoying motobicycles.

Just providing :devil2:'s advocate, is all.

Thats a good point. I wouldn't mind going on a night ride around town... Just might prove a bit difficult to keep the group together

re the lane spliting and other not-100% legit acts of terrorism that we could unleash on auckland I was thinking just .. not.

we would just 'own' the road where we were riding and ensure that we rode assertively (remember assertive not aggressive)

regular and well documented stops would help with the loosing people. since there are so many roads I would just print out dozens of maps and hand them out.

another way to think about it. If we did a loop around auckland 'gathering' riders as we go we could all end up at mine for midnight bbq and drinks.

floor sleeping room available of course.

even if we had address's or places everyone wanted to meet up and we could just gain momentum.

just imagine (not like we would get this many) but 45 bikes all cruising up queen st (at the posted speed limit! :) )

I did something similar a while ago with the silvia club. It was quite good fun (even in a cage).
It would be good to do as a bit of a change.

pyrocam
27th July 2005, 18:43
The ride will be much nicer and more fun when its not winter. some people dont like riding in these conditions.

by putting the date ahead some. it also means there is more chance its going to be an awesome night.

but I just had another thought. a full moon would be nice too.
either that or no moon at all so the lights look better on tank-cams.

but ok Ill head your advice. anyone who is keen post your ideal ride date or thoughts and we will work something out.

Im super keen too but still think warmer climates would be more fun and mean more riders.
so Im keeping my ideal date range in november.

let us 'ave it

shit a brick
I was wrong
all my hopes dashed!

Restricted licence conditions
You must not ride between 10 pm and 5 am.
You cannot carry a passenger.
You must not ride a motorcycle with an engine capacity greater than 250cc.

but really.
we will all have full licenses anyway so no probs.

I might shift it forward a bit so its not AS bad.
like maybe go up queen between 9-10 in which people can get home if the want to or they can come back to mine.

I might put a new thread up once we have discussed all th particulars so we come up with the best times and shit
