with a couple of very nice brutales for sale atm, and the KTM going for similar money, and my accountant liking the look of both, is there any real life experience on these bikes? i'm 6'2", 90ish kg, and the brutale looks small (to start). i've ridden the F4 750, that was ok, but the duke looks HUGE compared. of course, there's always a couple of very nice 'busas on the market.....but i know what they're like :)
Any suggestions?
Yip, if the accountant likes the look of both, buy both!! Sorted :devil2:

ktm would definitly suit a taller rider (at the lights) done 2000ks on mine and loveing it. ktm does bring out the hooligin in you though. has been good for me on long trips is comfy and nice power. Heaps of hot carbon bits to add. I think performance bike mag have got a write up of both including triumph and z1000 in next issue but they are english so of course triumph win ktm is a v twin so that cant win z1000 well thats a jappa so no chance they like the mv. but as far as real world KTM is an awesome bike that is well suited to NZ roads. Good luck with your choice either way youll have an awesome bike

Read the test by Stretch in this months Kiwi Rider and then go and put your deposit down. It is a great bike.

I'll tell you about the SuperDuke next Monday.
Performance Bike tested one, they reckon on tightish roads, say under 160 k's, sportbikes won't see which way it went.

Marty, go check out MV Agusta news. Theres a larger engined Brutale coming out. Might be better to wait for that.
EDIT: There you go, the Brutale 910. http://www.mvagusta.com/_vti_g2_ver.aspx?IdVer=21&rpstry=27_

Like a 4wd ?? I was thinking more like a cook strait ferry !!
I've heard the 910 is better for fuel than the 750. If you were going to buy new I wouldn't get a 750, I'd find out when the 910cc models arrive. They've been delivered in Europe already so some might already be on the way here. Otherwise you can get a 750 and bolt on the 860cc kit. It's a fairly expensive kit but a friend as done it and reckons it was worth every cent.

I did (buy it to tour on). It was a vast improvement over touring on the F4. I fitted a different fuel chip which took the range from 195k to just under 240k. That brought the range to up from "terrible" to "not great". As long as you plan properly then it's fine. I did the Rusty Nuts Big 50 which was nearly 4000k in 4 days without a problem on it.
Mind you, with only a 15L tank I can't imagine the KTM will have a huge range either.

I knew you were going to say that heh.
195km? Luxury, pure luxury. I hit 160km if ive been riding with a tailwind.
Aren't twins typically crap on gas? 15L tank is pretty small.

Fkn aye Marty, your're not wrong there. Get the superduke man, looks way cooler, big twin, big twin sound, torque, wheelies, stoppies, backing it into corners, looks like a cool fun bike to ride, the MV well, some will disagree but it looks shit and doesn't look aggressive enough for me, sorry matthewt, cool bike in it's own right just not my cuppa tea.
The new speed triple is bloody cool alright, the Z1000 was cool when it first came out but is getting a bit dated, still cool though, needs an unrestricted ZX10R motor to get things really going, now that would be cool.
But get the Superduke Marty, put a freakin loud pipe on it and go pull some wheelies past ya buddies in the force, well maybe on the last part.

Pretty sure its 100 points in 12 months = 6 months no licence, 100 points in 2 years and 3 months walking. Oh and new law is 40k over and automatic 28 day loss.

I reckon thats wrong aye, demerits last 2 years from date of issue not 2 years from last offence
else you are continually being recharged with a crime each time you commit another, and that just aint like our government
marty

no - demerits last 2 years from the last ticket. i'll find the legislation and post it (again)

91.Cancellation and reinstatement of demerit points—
(1)When 2 years have elapsed since the commission of an offence in respect of which demerit points were recorded, the entry of the points made in respect of that offence ceases to have effect in relation to the person who committed that offence; but if demerit points were recorded in respect of 2 or more offences committed by that person, the entry ceases to have effect when 2 years have elapsed since the commission of the most recent of those offences.

No need to be sorry, it'd be a boring place if we all like the same bike.
While I like my Brutale I'm more passionate about the F4. Once the 1000cc models start appearing on the 2nd hand market I'll be seriously looking at them. I rode the demo bike and didn't want to give it back :devil2:

So you get one ticket for 20 demerits every 23 months and 28 days, on the end of the 8th year you get another ticket for 20 demerits and you loose your license!??!? Sounds like bullshit to me, effectivally the punishment for the first offence has been extended by two years every two years. whats it called, double jeopardy when you get charged for the same offence twice, or more in this case.

Ktm stock pipes are real heavy 55% weight saving with Akrapovic aftermarket pipes.
with that weight loss and abit more power, sounds like a worth while excersise without taking noise into account.
