Pity it sounds so... so.... weedwackery. Be nice if it was either quieter or had an interesting hum to it.

The same has been said about 4T dirt bikes I'm sure :bleh: (apart from the weedwacker comparison)

One of the review I read was that riding it you pick up a lot more of the environment noise, other riders, your own machine's suspension action, roost etc.

Looks cool though, always figured KTM would be the first of the mainstream manufactures to put out an electric.

The future is looking good. Now they just need to release a video of an un-fit, late forties, just got back into dirtbikes after 20 years rider on one to convince me.

How much will it suck when ya get passed by one?

I think the real question is:
How much will it suck if you run out of juice and got nowhere to recharge!!!
Its not as if you can borrow some gas...

Would be good if you could simulate any sound to come out of it

you wont have to push it too far, according to the vid and overnight charge only gives you 3 mins running time  forgot to take off coffee drinking time so make that 2 minutes :bleh:

says the freeride e only takes 90 mins to fully charge and this one

http://www.gizmag.com/ktm-freeride-e-electric-motorcycle-specs/20482/

reckons about 20-45 mins riding from fully charged to none

90mins of charging for just 45mins of riding

I think ill wait another 10-20 years for battery technology to catch up......

+1 to that but it's a good signpost on the way to the future - as someone who finds standard MX petrol tanks not big enough for a decent long ride it'll be a while but if ya could get it's running time up about 4-5 hours I'd be keen as mustard

None of these options we be so bad you could go out do a lap even a short race lap come in and change for a fully charged battery except for the underlining factor that having a spare battery would cost an arm an a leg and to most wouldn't be a option. As said lot a $$$ to pay out just to ride for 45 minutes then have to wait an hour and a half. (stupid thing is if you go out to a track etc etc what you going to charge it with ??? petrol powered generator now thats clever )

LOL I'd say you spend at least 1 charge cycle yacking between each lap Aaron so real problems there. Plus a peterol generator will use less gas than your lap.

When I see one in Erzberg I'll say yes they are there but till then they have no real use, and anyone thinking you can ride one on the mountain bike tracks not going to happen now that electric vehicles have been classed as motor vehicles in NZ.

Know it aint off road but Bruce Telford (road race) is doing a few laps on an electric race bike at wanganui (h) boxing day, didn't ask him what sort of time, must be during lunch break or sommit !
