Hey this meet is a great venue. The track is a hoot & over two days you can get dizzy with riding but learn a bunch.
camp at track or in cheapo hotel in town.

Awesome. Have to do it, great for practice + Trud needs to get some saddle time after hitting the books for so long.
PS I found an old reed that should work in her bike & perk it up somewhat. Brought it up on sun but you weren't there.

Cool, thanks.
We haven't had a weekend of doing nothing in ages, plus we won't be getting one over Xmas/new years so decide last weekend was good for doing 'nothing much'

And if the riders are bad they'll end up in the river....
It's going to be the first time out on a track since July! Speaking of that, here's hoping that there's no lips on the outside of the track this time. I also promise not to take out any Wgtn riders this time......
Maybe I should just bring my knitting!

:Offtopic: where's Cotswolds bike at, is it nearly finished? when can we expect to see it on the track? Are you going to start a thread with some build info?
I'm not from Wellington either but the family and I will be at Taumaranui, if we can find it that is, Im not sure they make road maps for south of the Bombays? Promised the kids I'd take them camping and swimming in the holidays, add some bucket racing and a little trail riding, sounds like the near perfect weekend!

I was told if I turn left before Taupo I will find it. The logistics involve bringing my brother up to provide a counter-point to my good looks. Fitting in with George's availabilty and arranging two vehicles to come up. We will need the second to bring my kids, brother, his daughter, George and Amy. Yeeha. Family holiday with motorbikes. What I really need is a van with more seating as well as room for 3 bikes. How you doing with that Henk?
Henk
21st December 2011, 16:16
Search for body road Taumarunui on google maps and it will point you in the right direction.
At the start of the road turn left over the bridge and head down the gravel driveway, take the left fork when you see the house.
I can squeeze three bikes and three people in the van but the center seat ain't flash. Borrowed a trailer in the meantime but the three people five bikes no towing solution will have to wait until next year.

okay, rumours are starting already about pikers. Why? Yes, the weather has been crap this week, but it's meant to be good for next weekend.
Scared of staying in a tent with a bunch of (drunken) idiots? Head over to the campground down the road and be civilised. I think they've got cabins. There's houses to rent for reasonable somewhere in the region (can't remember the website I was looking at).
Basically, harden up, and come have fun, whatever the weather. Bring spare clothes if you're worried you'll get damp.
Mr Bennett has put a hell of a lot of time and effort into giving us this series (giving up his own riding most of the time), so come on, it'll be a good weekend (coming from me who's only ridden a few laps at Taumaranui - but I had fun anyway).
As Henk says, we go away for a fun weekend, and if all the stars line up, we get some racing in.
Can anyone remember if there's a DVD player? If there is, I'll bring along TT3D (Closer to the Edge), so that if we don't get up to any mischief, we can sit and watch that (unlikely there's no mischief).

Toilets, kitchen, electrikery, running water (plus river), clubrooms (for hanging up leathers, sitting around etc).
It's an awesome spot, but with young kids, they will need to have someone keep an eye on them due to the river, but there's enough of us, plus other kids, and it'll be all good. Town's about 11km away, where there are restaurants, takeaways, petrol, booze.
Bring your riding gear as well, so you can go out for a blat on the bikes.

Dutchee
1st January 2012, 10:53
Don't let them put a flag in your hand (I intend not to pick one up but doubt that's possible). It's up to us to organise and flag ourselves. Last year I spent the weekend lapscoring, the year before flagging, this year I intend to ride, or if I decide against it, just sit and watch and screw 'em. I'm trying to learn how to be a racer, and for that to happen, I need to learn the mememememe mentallity.
Definitely bring the leathers, we'll get you out there and if we see you with a flag in your hand, we'll have a punishment ready. (we met at Roy's Hill where you spent the day flagging in July last year).
Okay, so the girls are old enough to help look after any little ones that turn up lol. I was thinking age of around Nigel's grandson hehehe

We have some exceptionally outstanding Romanian plum brandy for you if you are keen. Koba, Helen and myself tried it at Wanganui and it would seem selfish in the extreme to not share such a wonderfully ethnic local specialty with as many others as possible.
Drag you gear along, we'll find a bike for you to ride at some stage, even if it is during practice or when the rest have decided to stop for a nap and you can have th etrack to yourselves.

WTF? Surely the idea of Port on the Corner is more corners is better????? What the heck book did that come out of with "they are a single corner for the purpose of drinking port on them". Feck, shoot the author, I don't like him at all.

You TWO will see that it is one corner when you ride this fantastic track in the weekend.

It's a damn good book actually, I'll scan a page from time to time and post up when it's relevant.

I take it you won't be brining the book with you then, not that I suspect you of cheating or anything but having to rely on your memory as the final authority has seemed to work conveniently in your favor at times.

Cheating at what? Games that we are making up as we go along?
On another note I'll bring a prize (really nothing bad!) for the person who is first to guess my bikes current horsepower output. (At the wheel)
Extra points for getting what revs it is at.

Gary Cunningham and Dave Manuell are going from Auckland as well. Dave's knee is still not perfect after surgery but Dave taking it easy should still be worth watching. There was a bit of smack talk when they called at my place earlier in the week.

That being said in the wet it probably is two.

Anticlockwise it looks like one corner, clockwise is another story. Which way do you walk the track for your drinking games?

Hmm not going to comment on if it is one comer or two, I will leave that for you drunken idiots to fight out while you fall over and break ankles, wrists or any other bones walking the track at some ridiculous hour of the evening (I am not jealous, honest).
All I know is that it is fast, and the grass on the outside is real slippery.

Clockwise is the main way. What you can't see is what makes the corner so captivating, is the increasing banking, took me ages to work it out, but I'd have to say I make ground on most people there.
Anyways I'm out, my time is precious & I can use the time to work on the various issues on the 100 + sneak out ont eh trials bike tomorrow as it will be dry in the Hutt. Have fun guys.

Are you a phsycic
LIVE at Taumarunui
Well sort of live....
We arrived at 8:15pm Friday night to find a gaggle of tents already set up.
Everyone in good spirits as a warm summer evening and a few beers does.
" Injury has already taken it's toll and Henk may not ride due to an evening Roller Blade incident. "
More later...

Sheesh, I kept a straight face, but couldn't believe that people would think I cared how he was. He's broken, he's a PITA, and now I have to wake up early to take him to work tomorrow - but will pay him back by dropping him off at his mum's while I go out tomorrow night bwahahahaha (hmmm, funnily enough, I can't see her being sympathetic either lol).

Nope.
The argument stems from our differing definitions of a corner.
I say the corner relates to the form of the track and how one rides it is irrelevant.
The anecdote to compare would be the sweeper at Manfeild, It's one corner. Some people single apex it, some people double apex it, shit I've even seen squids fit in six apexes. (Apexi?) BUT it's still ONE corner.
