Just walked past my bike on the way back from buying lunch, noticed that the casing on the right hand side under the seat was hanging from one hinge. So I tootle over and have a looksie only to find that some b*stard has stolen my tool kit, not just that but the lid of the casing to it too!! FFS I thought that it would've been safe considering I park it on Victoria St outside a Farmers entrance and right out by a very busy cafe. I've only had my bike a month and someones already knocked it over and now this. AAARRRGGHHH!! No one in Farmers saw anything and same with the cafe staff, I just don't think its worth calling to police though . . . What do you guy's reckon??!!

I know, when I asked the guy's at work with bikes, they wouldn't have had a clue where my tools were kept . . . . . someone who knows what they're doing has done it!!
Yea, ive put the cover on, lucky I have some tools at home that I can carry round with me. Hopefully they should see me through if I need them!

Just playing devils advocado here ..... Have you recently removed that fairing for any reason?
Is it possible that the fairing came loose while riding and the tool kit fell out?
Does the tool kit just sit in there or is it secured with a band or lock?
Just asking eh... don't get all "uppity" on me.

na mate - not good.
And to make it worse... I'd expect it to be someone in need of a GN toolkit (i.e. motorcyclist).
Not good...

lol!! That's sweet. I have only ever removed the tool kit once before to remove then put my gear lever back on. At that stage I put it back, secured the lid, which btw is damn hard to get of, then put the casing/fairing back on.
I wish that it had just fallen out - but I washed my bike yesterday and it was definately still there, and fastened securely!

Sorry, but the world is really full of arseholes and another reason why I hardly ever bring my old bike into town...
Look out for an add, 12 yr old GN250 with new tool kit.
Either that or it's just a joy spoiler...
sigh.

Report it Str8, nothing will probably ever be done about it...........
HOWEVER if you don't report you gaurantee nothing happening and there is always the small possibility that if you bring it to the attention of the cops they may pay a little more attention to people playing around with motorcycles that are parked.
It does suck that people steal shit BUT look on the bright side, the next wanker might have used your tool kit to steal your bike  That's not going to happen now is it!!!

I reported it at the station up the road after work yesterday. Had a phone call a few mins ago advising that a little pouch with tools had been handed in. So I went straight up there and what do ya know, it was mine, YAY! Apparently in was found in a gutter somewhere down Bond St. Im stoked, all I need now is to get a new lid for the case! Will carry it around in my backpack for now :Punk:

Maybe it just fell out, and wasn't stolen after all?
At least you got it back - they may not be the best tools in the world, but they're handy all the same.
And it's nice to know there are still some honest people out there.
Last week in Chch, we took the gondola up the Cashmere Hills, and wlked own the Bridle Path while the boys mountain-biked down through Sumner. I took my comfy, warm, Kathmandu hat off at the bottom (who knew walking downhill could be so tiring? :spudwhat:) and must've dropped it. Some thieving bastid picked it up and I never saw it again. Wish I had really bad cooties...
On the positive side, driving past Kathmandu on Sunday they had a "Sale! 50% off!" sign outside, and I got a more betterer hat for $12.50. :niceone:

I imagine that was exactly what happened. Opportunistic thief grabs the toolkit cos it's the only detachable thing on the bike. Hoping that what's in the pouch maybe be floggable (camera, weed, whatever) . Opens it up when away from the scene , discovers it's bike tools, no resale value at the pub or Cash Converters, and throws it away in disgust. Wonder if there was a second hand shop near where they were found?

So alls well that ends well?
I think its good to report these things to police, no mater how small. Helps build up a picture of offender activity. And sometimes, as in your case, a good result happens.

I was just reading this and feeling stink for you. I guess the thing is that the only place it's safe to have our bikes is in a locked garage :oi-grr: If anyone did see someone fiddling with your bike they'd assume it was their bike.

Yeah that really sucks... Someone knocked my bike over in the garage at work... sent an e-mail round asking who it was... no-one owned up... asked the Director (HD Rider) if we could take a look at the security footage (the camera points right at my bike... reason for parking it there :)) anyway... took about a week to get approval... found out that it was one of the sales rep's, parked his car, opened the door with enough force to knock the bike over... Looked at the bike and walked off  Didn't even try to pick it back up...
He got a written warning for vandalising another staff members property... bastard
*still parks my bike infront of the camera*

Its really realy simple-respect other people -respect their stuff. If you damage it, own up and pay, if you want to borrow it, ask etc. Not really difficult eh? So how come so many find it impossible to do/

Cause some people feel they don't have to earn it and that you owe everything they get.
