I'm gonna be heading up to watch the racing again this year. The weather looks bloody brilliant and the racing is always good to watch...
Anyhoo, Just wondered if anyone else from Welly, Kapiti etc etc would be keen on taking the long way up? Thinking an early 7.00 -7.30 am start, racing starts at 11, and an alternative route up than SH1 could be good... Muddy / dusty would be fun.
I have no set route yet, and I know from Welly its hard to avoid SH's but any ideas out there, maybe Foxton Beach to Tangimoana on the beach? Maybe an alternative from Bulls to Wanganui? Maybe even the Otaki forks to Manakau "extreme route" via Tompsons hill?
Enough rambling on.
Looking for route ideas, and pals, from Paraparaumu to Wanganui...

Any idea what time racing starts?

May be interested. I usually make the trek - BUT I suspect we'll have limited choice of diversions to get there in time for the racing. Pretty boring roads to get to Wanganui. Possible to divert via Marton / Fordell.

I'm going. Plan at moment is road based with Sudman.
Leaving Sanson about 9.:scooter:

Racing starts at about 11.
9am at Sanson either means a slow ride into Wanga-vegas or you have some back road jaunt planned from there....? Or you just want to get a good spot for the racing.
So possible plan could be, leave Waikanae coffee cart for a boring SH ride up to Foxton beach then head down the beach from Foxton beach to Himatangi, or possibly Tangimoana (Should be mid tide). Then head up a short stretchof SH1 (yawn) to Sanson.
Looks to be a few twisty routes from here to Wangas, maybe a twisty ride up the Turakina river and back down via Kauangaroa and Fordell. My old map shows some gravel, but its probably been tar sealed by now...
Timings....?
Waikanae at 7.30am, Sanson at 9.30, Wangas some time after 10.30. Sound good?

If your keen please post up pretty soon as I'll be driving up in the car otherwise with the whanau!
Or taking the Mille and trying not to fall asleep at the bars, its only the side wind that keeps me awake after Foxton...

In a bid to keep all members of the family happy I am now no longer riding up to Wanga-vegas. (still get to go but will be driving - too long a story!)
Scrap any previous plans of early morning rides up deserted beaches and back road gravel drifting....etc etc.
Anyway, It'll be worth the credits when the RRRR rolls around in a few weeks!
Feel free to use this thread to make your own plans for the ride up though.
Laters, have fun all - Merry Christmas!
