Hi guys & girls,

I have recently undertaken a comprehensive Speed Test Report around Hamilton City, whereby I compared Mobile Data Performance between Vodafone NZ & Telecom XT on my Samsung Galaxy S II.

I thought some of you might be interested in this, so I will post a link to the article below, for you to check out:

Let me know what you think

Not a bad series of tests.

As you say this is an indication rather than a true comparison, ideally you'd test both at the same time (and there are a few other considerations when comparing network speed), but overall it is a good user experience test.

That's a good effort. The highest download speed I've managed on the 2° network is 3mbps.

Great work! How do you have so much time on your hands? :p:corn::scooter:

Awesome, will settle a few 'discussions' in the lunchroom;)

"this is an indication rather than a true comparison"

Interesting testing methods

A true comparison is to do side by side testing at the same time...off peak hours...and then peak hours...you may be surprised at the findings

but then again :killingme

Actually that isn't a true comparison either, as there are more factors to the effective data rate the user sees than just time of day.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all of the feedback!

As I mentioned, it was not possible to test between both networks simultaneously, which would would of been ideal.

As I didn't know of anyone who was available to help at the time
I couldn't borrow a spare laptop
I couldn't borrow a spare Samsung GS2

I "have the time" at the moment, as I'm currently between jobs & hope to start in a new career focus early in the New Year.

@willytheekid Hi Willy - my report covers what I tested exactly & why. SpeedTest.Net tests were done, multiple, per carrier, per location, as well as FTP downloads & also Ping Tests (this was done to allow for the limitations of the SpeedTest.Net website, which was again covered in the report! Did you actually read my report btw??) - I would call this comprehensive testing, especially for someone who does not get paid to do any of this, nor do I have a big budget, like companies such as Epitiro!

If anything, my testing is waaaay more detailed than the average user who flicks off a single speed test on their Smartphone.....Furthermore, the testing WAS conducted during peak & off peak - as testing generally fell between 0800-1700, over several different days, to take into account possible variables in Network Performance.

Anyways...... I wrote an article a short time ago, about the Telecom "single speed test, in a single location" here:

At the bottom of the article was this video - which I thought would be good to share with you all :-)
