Not sure how many of the southerns are on this forum, but im wondering on some more places to go off road with our motorbikes in the Southland/Central Otago region. Ive done the Nevis before and thats pretty sweet, so will be doing that again soon. Lake Mavora has a four wheel drive track which we will do in the near future too. Any one else have some good places to ride? Trail rides should be starting up soon but need some riding in before they start.

Thanks.

Piano Flat to Shingle Creek and back - and have lunch at the Shingle Creek pub. 1 large Hill climb, many peat bogs and of course shingle creeks.

I'll be down 8th - 15 Jan. If I hear of a bike I can borrow, I'll bring my gear down and go over it with ya.

When I was there, there was the Southern Trail ride series which was pretty good and attracted reasonable numbers, though that was 8 years ago.

The Shingle creek pub is now closed.

Don't forget west dome, Whitestone river, and eyre creek (if you don't mind heaps of river crossings!). Did mavora a few months ago, not a bad ride, getting to furtherest hut (forks hut I think) is rough and last stream crossing was fun ( deep, swift, and hugh rocks).

Yep, it is the forks hut. You can go further up the valley towards the greenstone It does get quite interesting towards the saddle though. Great fun in a 4x4 too.
