Left indicator idle problem

Hey guys

Bought myself a 92 zxr250 a few days ago. I have replaced the battery as the bike had been sitting for a while and the battery was rooted.

took it for a quick ride today and I noticed that when idling with the right indicator on it was fine and would light up on the dash , but with the left on the rpm would rise and fall (proberly would have stalled if i hadnt set the idle a tad higher for the first ride) , also the dash light wasnt flashing.

any ideas on what the problem might be?

One of the indicators on the left has high resistance, lamp holder may be corroded up with water and be rusted and powdery. This shouldn't be enough to stall the motor though.

start by removing the fairing, getting a can of contact cleaner and going over all the connections. do all the connections for everything else you can see while youre at it.
check for corrosion while you are doing it.
check also for damaged/crossed/burnt wires.

Lift the tank up a bit, leaving the fuel line still connected. Wait untill dark, and start the engine. Any shorts should be obvious.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, will definately go nuts with the contact cleaner as the wiring is a bit dirty.

Problem solved, one of the wires that was attached to the battery terminal had sneakily hidden under the petrol tank when i changed the battery, reconnected it and shes good as gold:2thumbsup

Finding that wire may only be a temporary fix, after all it was only the left indicator and not the right hand one. It sounds like your blinker fluid may be overdue for a change. These folk have a good deal on replacement blinker fluid.

^ na the guy that sold me the bike said he had just replaced the blinker fluid so should be sweet :motu:

Merry xmas:banana:If you go nuts with contact cleaner, the electronic type is more forgiving on plastics than the motor/contact type, just saying.
