I think this is my old motor,a TM top end on a TS bottom end, there are a few clues I can see....unless they all break the same fins etc.I took my 36mm Blue Magnum off and fitted the standard TS carb back on,obviously no one figured that out. With the heavier crank and the flywheel ign it would still pull from 2500rpm without the nasty TM kick at 4500rpm,a real solid nice runner she was...another I'm sorry I sold - I tamed a wild beast.

I din't ever get to ride a TM400 but at one stage my brother had a TM125 that managed to cripple at least 3 people that I know of

I hate to think what the 400 must have been like

Rode the PE400 but I think that would have been somewhat tamer

A 40hp two stroke was considered extreme when they came out - My DT230 makes the same power with almost half the size and a lot less weight, and a broader power spread too.I got the TS400 as a street bike and it was really mild mannered and grunty, then I fitted TM forks and top end with a big carb,it had good top end like the TM400,without the light switch powerband.I kept the TM front end but went back to a 19in to ride it on the dirt track. It wouldn't fit in the removal truck - well,it was choice between the Honda C50 and the Suzuki, the C50 was easier to lift onto the truck.....

Funny that, we did the same thing on a mate’s bike when he had a TM engine as a spare. Aparently (read old Super Hunky files) the ignition was the most inconsistent item & that caused the 'all or nothing - but only sometimes' power.

Yeah, definatly the ign rather than the porting, although the TM holes were huge compared to the TS.My TM motor had been run with premix, but they needed an oil feed to the left main and it had done a big end.The TS crankcase gave a tacho drive too, although you didn't need one.I had to glue my barrel down with shelac, the crankcase compression just blew the gasket out otherwise. The TS bottom end/TM top end was a common mod...it just looks like my one,and I still kick myself for letting it go.

Yeah, this one had the crankcase glued together with Araldite. Chain derailment was a common fobile.
