Not mine you fool - the one on the bike.

Got back from my Boxing day ride yesterday, hoisted the bike onto the paddock stand to lube the chain and happened to notice, while doing so, that the one remaining Stebel Magnum horn had broken its bracket and was hanging by the wiring. Mounting bracket was just a mild steel strip, cut and bent to fit the horn in behind the radiator. I guess the constant vibration had caused the metal to fatigue and break.

"One remaining?" I hear you ask.

Yeah. I had mounted a pair (actually Boyds did that job for me when I swapped bikes) - dual tone to get the beats and the extra 3db. But the other one had busted its bracket too and had fallen onto the exhaust and had ermmm...melted. And was foobahed, funnily enough.

So I've done a fix using stainless strip this time - which might or might not last a bit better. I'll keep an eye on it this time and try to catch it before it falls off again if the strip begins to fail.

OR. I could rip out the magnum and install a Nautilus compact.

Which brings me to the point.

Has anyone mounted a Nautilus on a gixxer like mine (600, K8) and if so, just where did you put it? 'cause it's not like there's heaps of room available to actually mount anything where it's kinda out of the weather and not likely to fall onto the exhaust like my No.1 did.

All ideas gratefully received.

Mount it on top of your helmet, and programme it with about a dozen pre-recorded slogans. Such as..... "indicate much"?

When you mount them ... use rubber washers .... with Nyloc nuts ...

Tried that on one of my past bikes and the rubber washer mounting method made them vibe against other bits nearby. The bracket they mount on needs to be a small angle iron, with either nyloc nuts or loctite used. Good luck mounting them on a gixxer 600 though, packaged pretty tight undercover....

Aren't they though...I had enough trouble getting to the speed sensor lead to install a speedohealer...

Best horn option I've seen (and heard) on one of my mates' bikes a few years back was something described as a piezo electric horn. Sounded a bit odd, loud as hell, instant on, about the size of big smoke packet.....must look around the interweb for one...can't ask my mate as he's six foot under now (not the horns' fault btw).

stainless steel doesnt like vibration. It work hardens quickly and becomes brittle - nature of the metal
