Anyone bored and want to wind up some horsey people.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Community/MessageBoard/Messages.aspx?id=914520&p=1&topic=19

Thread is about introducing compulsory helmet laws for horse riders. Usual crap about 'I already pay my ACC levies' etc

Have fun!

I wonder if I could register my bikes as horse's, after all 1 is made up of 20 horses & the other about 100, surely with that many horse's inside each one they're eligible for horse classification :innocent:

No no no! That is so communist! I wear a helmet on certain horses but I also recognise that on some horses it is my own head and I have the right to go helmetless if I so choose. I don't say that everyone should go without so why should someone tell me I have to?
My sister was wearing a properly fitted helmet when she came off her horse a few years back, and when she hit the ground it flipped up and the strap cut off her breathing. She would have choked to death if another rider hadn't been able to come over and remove the helmet.
Helmets are not a cure-all for head injuries and they increase the chance of concussion if your head hits the ground because it's a hard shell for the brain to bounce around in. When they are beneficial is when a rider falls off and the horse kicks out behind--yes I've seen it happen and been glad that the rider was wearing a helmet. Yes it is a good idea to have kids wear them, but to make them compulsory for all riders is just ludicrous!

My, errr reply

HUH? the 'helmet' just makes a hard surface for the brain to bounce around in? Well unless you've had your skull removed, your brain is already contained inside a hard container, that has a modicum of fluid to cushion impacts. The helmet should help 'cushion' the amount of direct impact on the skull, hopefuly preventing fractures and reducing the coup/contra coup effect on the brain. If you are riding your horse on the road? Then you should wear one, and wait for the Govt/ACC to decide you also need to wear Hi-vis vests like they are lining up for motorcyclists...

Has anyone noticed how the trademe mods are such retards? They seem to delete posts and throw members in the sin bin for doing fuck all.
